Jesse Jackson gave a powerful DNC speech that ended up repeating these three phrases: 'It's healing time, it's hope time, it's Hillary time.'

Powerful stuff.
I believe this too. In this election America has a stark choice. They can go down the Trumpian rabbit hole. Or they can continue swimming upstream in Obama's America.
How cynical is this country? Only if we are this cynical will Donald Trump happen.

The good sign is that while the President was not so popular in 2013 and 2014, he's come back to over 50 percent in 2016. This suggests that maybe the country does think Obama's America is one worth fighting for.
After what Trump said today, you have to really be cynical to vote for Trump. Remember for years the GOP has compared Obama negatively to Putin. Now they seem to have elected Putin's American protege.
One thing that pundits say is that Hillary can't heal America because Obama couldn't. But if Hillary wins this will codify Obama's America.
Until Hillary wins, nothing Obama has accomplished is guaranteed to survive. Funny that the GOP didn't like Michelle Obama's speech. Most people did.
Here Rick Wilson tries to explain to his clueless conservative brethren that Michelle Obama's speech is a home run.

All of these are good signs.
Overall, the story of 2016 might be the Democrats. This seems strange. I mean the Democrats are a reasonable, healthy party, that has few fireworks. Yes, there was the Berner scare. But Bernie showed himself in the end to be part of Team Democrat and what a convention this has been.
When you look at the UK and Europe you see mainstream parties falling apart and splintering. We laugh at the GOP but the same thing has happened to the Center Left Labour party who are unable to mount a challenge to the dysfunctional Tories.
You see Center Left parties splintering. What's striking is how unified the Dems are. They, less than the GOP, stand out in the year of Trump. Brexit and problems in the euro countries.

Mike, this ad about what a disaster Trump would be for national security is powerful:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.redstate.com/kylefoley/2016/07/27/watch-dnc-absolutely-hammers-trump-foreign-policy-video/
Putin came through for his bottom boy trump with some voice mails:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.redstate.com/sweetie15/2016/07/27/breaking-wikileaks-releases-intercepted-dnc-voice-mails-audio/
... with the personal phone numbers of some celebrities included apparently.
DeleteMike, after seeing protest signs and chants during Leon Panetta's GREAT speech about how dangerous Trump is and how Hillary would be way better on national security, I have to say I'm probably on the right wing of the Democratic party. I would have been one of the ones chanting like a Republican "USA! USA! USA!" to drown them out. As far as I'm concerned, that's the kind of internal dirty laundry you don't air on a national stage that you're tying to attract independents and moderates to.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, what would really be great is if the GOP simply evaporated and the left wing of the Democrats broke off to be the non-governing protest party.
I'd be very comfortable with the right wing of the Democrats being their own party. The centrist governing party.
I'm **DELIGHTED** that Joy Reid agrees with me about the embarrassment of those protesters during Panetta's speech. What utter dopes! Yeah Joy!! She can be in my half of the Dem party. =)
DeleteActually I hope it's a LOT more than half. Let's hope it's my 95% of the Dem party.
Delete(Seriously though... WTF were those protesters thinking? If you want to protest drone wars, or whatever, please do it during the 3rd or 4th year speakers, not the keynotes, ESPECIALLY on a day like this when we need to highlight Trump's absolute crazy remarks)
DeleteBiden and Bloomberg.... AWESOME!!! (Especially Bloomberg).
ReplyDeleteI've never heard a Bloomberg speech before... I really liked him!
Bloomberg hit all the right notes in my view, especially regarding Trump being an utter unfit assclown, huckster, conman and fraud.
Delete"Sane competent leadership"
That's absolutely right.
... absolutely right about Hillary of course.
DeleteTim Kaine: I love this guy! A very good choice by Hillary.
ReplyDelete... and he nailed Trump to the wall, backing up what Bloomberg said and expanding on it.
DeleteSumner passed along a new word I've never heard before:
ReplyDeletekakistocracy: Government under the control of a nation's worst or least-qualified citizens.
Don't be thrown by the title: it's a mixed review mostly positive) from uber anti-abortionist conservative Erick Erickson of Obama's speech. http://theresurgent.com/a-few-thoughts-about-day-3-of-hate-america-2016-in-philly/
ReplyDeleteThe bit about sucking out baby brains is a little rough, but the rest mostly OK.
