Bernie Gets Flustered

Hillary did what she needed to tonight. She showed that she is conversant on many issues whereas Bernie is just big on a couple of issues-campaign finance, money in politics.

Many noted he was gesticulating wildly and his face got kind of red. He argued that it's a low blow to call him out on criticism of Obama but as HRC pointed out he did talk about primarying him in 2012.

She has strong backing this time. Here is David Axelrod:

"Not a low blow. @SenSanders was among those who mused in '11 about encouraging a challenge from left to @barackobama. #DemDebate."

"Also, when you write featured blurb for a book called Buyer's Remorse: How Obama Let Progressives Down, one assumes you agree! #DemDebate"

Even Chris Cillizza agrees:

"In closing statement, Hillary hits her main point: She can speak to all issues, not just a few pet issues."

Finally she finished off on a high note by diverting attention back to Flint. I wonder if Ben Jealous will think this petty as well.

Here is Josh Marshall:
"Agree with it or not, I think Hillary found or rolled out her new motto when she said "I am not a single issue candidate." That brings together the essence of the argument she's trying to make against Sanders. "But here's the point I want to make tonight. I am not a single-issue candidate and I do not believe we live in a single-issue country. I think that a lot of what we have to overcome to break down the barriers that are holding people back ..."

I think she laid the groundwork for this strategy last debate as well. This is the key. He's about a couple of pet issues she's more conversant in the whole host of issues before a President.

As President Obama says, you have to walk and chew gum at the same time.
