Feel the Bern Rate: Sanders Blows Through Cash in January

There's good news and bad news for Bernie in January. Yes he outraised Hillary for the first time which tells me: we Hillary supporters have to do better.

I've spoken to a number of HRC supporters on Twitter who have been donating to her now. I think for a long time we were all a little complacent figuring Hil has all the money she needs.

But the bad news for Bernie is that they Bernt through a lot more money than she did, and, even worse, Bernt through more than he took in. As Homer would say 'Doh!'

"Bernie Sanders didn't only outraise Hillary Clinton in January. He outspent her too."

"The Vermont senator's campaign dropped $34.9 million last month, $15 million more than Clinton spent, but also $13.6 million more than his campaign brought in."

In other words, he's in a less advantageous position now than he was before January and this in exchange for some suboptimal results as he''s lost two of the first three states.

I guess Bernie was wrong-in politics, money isn't everything.

I noted with interest that Bernie seemed unhappy with a point that Chuck Todd made: that Jeb Bush raised more super PAC money than anyone and yet his campaign was a total bust.

Bernie pivoted to attacking HRC for her super PACs, skating again over the fact that he too has a super PAC.

But how does explain Trump dominating the GOP field with no super PAC and very little money?

I think we are going to learn a lot about money in Presidential politics from 2016 but part of it might be that Bernie's obsession with money in politics is overkill in some respects.

Super PACs may well go the way of the pet rock if they prove so ineffective as they have for Republicans.
