Roger Ailes' Bill Cosby Problem

Maybe Ailes also gets to speak at the RNC Convention. We know Trump wanted Mike Tyson to speak.

"Fox News host Gretchen Carlson may be the highest-profile woman toaccuse Roger Ailes of sexual harassment, but she is not the first. In my2014 biography of the Fox News chief, I included interviews with four women who told me Ailes had used his position of power to make either unwanted sexual advances or inappropriate sexual comments in the office."

"And it appears she won’t be the last, either. In recent days, more than a dozen women have contacted Carlson’s New Jersey-based attorney, Nancy Erika Smith, and made detailed allegations of sexual harassment by Ailes over a 25-year period dating back to the 1960s when he was a producer on The Mike Douglas Show. “These are women who have never told these stories until now,” Smith told me. “Some are in lot of pain.” Taken together, these stories portray Ailes as a boss who spoke openly of expecting women to perform sexual favors in exchange for job opportunities. “He said that’s how all these men in media and politics work — everyone’s got their friend,” recalled Kellie Boyle, who says Ailes propositioned her in 1989, shortly after he helped George H.W. Bush become president, serving as his chief media strategist."

Classic Bill Cosby: where no matter how much the accused tries to discredit one accusation. six more are brought forward in the mean time.

This is the guy who was Bush's right hand man. And he also happens to be bosom buddies with Donald Trump these days. Trump clearly would admire his style.

"Six of the women agreed to speak with New York publicly for the first time. Two spoke on the record; the others requested anonymity for reasons that include shame and fear of retribution. “I didn’t tell my husband, it was so mortifying,” said Marsha Callahan, a former model who says Ailes harassed her in the late ‘60s, shortly before he became Richard Nixon’s media adviser.

"Ailes is clearly trying to keep these stories out of the press and the courts. Late on Friday, his lawyers filed a motion in federal court in New Jersey seeking to move Carlson’s lawsuit to arbitration, which would prevent witnesses from being called in court. “Plaintiff’s ploy of filing in Superior Court to justify her shameless publicity campaign against Roger Ailes should not be countenanced,” Ailes’s lawyers argued. Carlson's lawyers responded in a statement: "Roger Ailes is trying to force this case into a secret arbitration proceeding...Gretchen never agreed to arbitrate anything with Mr. Ailes.”

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

By the way, this also reflects very poorly on the RNC-not just Ailes and his network.

After Kellie Boyle, 54, a Former Republican National Committee field adviser, refused his advances, he put in a few calls to the RNC that she was never to work in this city again, so to speak.

"The next morning I show up to get my assignment and was told the guy I was supposed to be meeting with was unavailable. Back in New Jersey I got a call from Roger Ailes. He said, ‘How’d your meeting go?’ I said, ‘Actually he wasn’t available and I’m hoping to hear back from him.’ He said, ‘Ah, well, I’m sure you will. Have you changed your mind yet?’ I said, ‘I’ll have to pass, Roger. I’m married and really committed to my husband. No offense.’ He said, ‘Well, we’ll be in touch.’ And that was that. A couple weeks later, I called a friend who was very high up in the RNC and I asked him what happened. He said, ‘Word went out you weren’t to be hired.’

We can talk about Hillary Derangement Syndrome. But let's not do it in a vacuum. This is a party that to this day does not have a very elevated view of women and their place in society.

It's not for nothing that Carly Fiorina was basically asked to run as a political token to neutralize Hillary Clinton.

Just think about how many times Fox News has professed faux outrage over Monica Lewinsky, etc.

They're covering it too, in case you didn't see.

  2. Cool. I think nothing Fox News says about Hillary now avoids being answered with two words: Roger Ailes

  3. Mike, here's a bit of rumor mongering you might like:

  4. What Democrat would take that job?

I guess it's understandable why he'd want that. On some level Trump's insight is that the GOP is a joke-which is why he could take it over so easily.

  5. I agree with Wolff though that the GOP voters made this mess and they should lie in it.

That Trump wants a Dem maybe partly due to being upset about his GOP meeting. But it might be partly because, again, the GOP is a joke. Who in it would would you want as your VP?

I can't think of anyone particularly. Certainly not anyone who plans to run for anything again.

    1. Well the guy Trump had in mind: Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (according to Wolf who in turn got that from Costa apparently) is an Obama critic.

Trump doesn't know squat about the military either, so I guess having a general could help him. And he's a "registered Democrat" which doesn't necessarily mean much. When's the last time he changed his nomination? Maybe he's like me and it's subject to change every election. When's the last time he actually voted for a Democrat, and did he split the ticket?

Of course Wolf is also addressing that other rumor (that Trump himself is responsible for fostering): Does Trump actually want the job?

And of course you've probably heard the story of Trump's wink:

    2. Yes it's not the first time Trump has suggested he does't want the job. Other times he's made it sound like he'll be a figurehead and the VP-whoever it will be-will run things.

  6. O/T: Mike, this RedState.com piece by Neil Stevens sounds BLM sympathetic:

    http://www.redstate.com/neil_stevens/2016/07/09/american-history-tells-us-police-shootings/

Of course at RedState.com they're probably more worried about armed citizens being shot than they are about race, but the article doesn't really go there, so it's not clear.

  8. Actually, now that I think of it, she might not have said it then. She said it in a tweet.

  9. O/T: I don't know if this is real, but if it is, somebody should contact the NRA about Americans' rights to keep and bear arms being infringed upon by a group of free enterprise haters:
    http://endingthefed.com/breaking-armed-patriots-raid-suspected-terrorist-training-camp-in-virginia.html

Why don't I have confidence it's real? Because I saw it here:
    http://nutbarfactor.com/archives/138892

Nutbar factor? Hmmm... and in turn I first saw that on TheResurgent.com's facebook page:
    https://www.facebook.com/theresurgent/posts_to_page/

There's something deeply conflicting about that if you're an NRA member or officer isn't there Mike? On the one hand you need to maximize profits for gun makers and play into every nutty idea about having and training with any kind of gun you want... but on the other hand, does that apply to people named "Mohammed" who look like they're originally from Syria (no matter where they were actually born)? Lol

A little Googling on the subject of "NRA Muslims" brought up this delicious story:
    http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-03-16/how-the-nra-s-internal-election-became-a-civil-war-over-radical-islam

But I won't be satisfied until the Muslim NRA members march with their loaded AR-15s and AK-47s in Oklahoma City... hopefully with their women, armed and dangerous and in full body hijabs as well.

I'd love to see that house of cards come tumbling down in a pile of conservative gut level cognitive dissonance.
