Maureen Dowd, Your Hatred is What Contanimates

She is now besides herself as she knows what's coming. The woman who she has hated and written a 1000 nasty columns about over 25 years is going to be the next POTUS.

"IT says a lot about our relationship with Hillary Clinton that she seems well on her way to becoming Madam President because she’s not getting indicted."

"If she were still at the State Department, she could be getting fired for being, as the F.B.I. director told Congress, “extremely careless” with top-secret information. Instead, she’s on a glide path to a big promotion."

Nice try. If she were still at State this would have never become an issue in the first place. Here is a counterfactual less she doubt this. Take the case of Ashton Carter, the current Defense Secretary.

It was revealed late last year after all the storm and stress over Hillary's emails that Carter himself was still using private email-after so much public breastbeating over it. This ended up being a one day story and that was all.

"It was forgotten immediately. Why the different standard? Because Mr. Carter is not running for President. Indeed, when you point out that use of private email or a private server is the rule and not the exception by high ranking government officials, the answer is always 'Yeah, but those other officials aren't running for President.'

Which shows that this is all about politics, full stop. If John Kerry were the likely 2016 Democratic nominee then his email practices would become a source of feeding frenzy.

"In a mere 11 days, arrogant, selfish actions by the Clintons contaminated three of the purest brands in Washington — Barack Obama, James Comey and Loretta Lynch — and jeopardized the futures of Hillary’s most loyal aides."

If these pure brands tell us Hillary did nothing wrong while Trent Gowdy, Maureen Dowd and Donald Trump say otherwise, maybe we should listen to what the pure brands are telling us.

And no, Ms. Dowd. They have not been 'contaminated.' As for the alleged evil of the Clintons the truth is their enemies have always been much more evil than they are. Look at what folks like Ken Starr, Newt Gingrich, and Dennis Hastert have been involved with since.

"But in the end, Hillary’s goo got on Obama anyhow. On Tuesday, after Comey managed to make both Democrats and Republicans angry by indicting Clinton politically but not legally, Barry and Hillary flew to Charlotte, N.C., for their first joint campaign appearance."

"Obama was left in the awkward position of vouching for Hillary’s “steady judgment” to run an angry, violent, jittery nation on the very day that his F.B.I. director lambasted her errant judgment on circumventing the State Department email system, making it clear that she had been lying to the American public for the last 16 months."

'Her goo got on him.' It's wonderful language like this, I guess, that gives Ms. Dowd such job security over at the NY Times. Yet, Dowd thinks the Clintons are the ones who 'contaminate' things.

"Comey, who was then yanked up to Capitol Hill for a hearing on Thursday, revealed that instead of no emails with classified information, as Hillary had insisted, there were 110, of those turned over to the State Department. Instead of Clinton’s assurances that the server in the basement in Chappaqua had never been breached, Comey said it was possible that hostile actors had hacked Clinton’s email account. Among the emails not given to State, he said at least three contained classified information."

Actually, no. See, no matter what the Clinton haters say about their alleged dishonesty, it's the haters themselves who are always by far more dishonest. The GOP botched this inquisition and ended up admitting that she had not lied and that none of these emails were marked properly at the time. State then announced that they were not classified.

Ms. Dowd simply ignores this inconvenient fact like Clinton haters have always ignored inconvenient little facts and have thereby contaminated public discourse.

"After Bill Clinton crossed the tarmac in Phoenix to have a long chat with Lynch, the attorney general confessed that the ill-advised meeting had “cast a shadow” over her department’s investigation into his wife and that she would feel constrained to follow the recommendation of the F.B.I."

“I certainly wouldn’t do it again,” Lynch said, admitting it hit her “painfully” that she had made a mistake dancing with the Arkansas devil in the pale moonlight.

I guess it's these wonderful turns of phrase that give Dowd her job security. The idea that somehow Lynch's chance meeting with Bill Clinton in any way effected the outcome is entirely crackbrained.

As Comey found for no indictment, how does Ms. Dowd imagine that Lynch's tarmac chat had any impact?

"The meeting seemed even more suspect a week later, when The Times reported that Hillary might let Lynch stay on in a new Clinton administration."

Right. Hillary has to fire Lynch to show-something is not 'rigged' though clearly nothing is rigged as Comey came to his own conclusion before Lynch even knew what it was.

If Hillary decided not to keep Lynch then Dowd would absurdly claim that Hillary's 'selfishness' had destroyed Lynch that she only had to let her go for appearances.

But then, this is the rabbit hole of Clinton hatred that Dowd has flailed around in for the last 25 years.

Turns out that gives a fat paycheck.

Notice the sexism that she gets away with as she's a woman herself. I'm sure some Right wing wonders will tell us she's no sexist because she's also a female.

Dowd is always calling Hillary 'selfish.' This is a very gendered term as there is no male politician Dowd has ever used it against.

Meanwhile while she says that 'Hillary's got her goo on Obama' she says nothing about Roger Ailes. This guy is not a 'devil' in her mind like Bill Clinton is. What kind of goo is this guy who just happens to run Clinton Hating News leaving on people? Dowd is predictably mum.

Just shows Dowd's overall pettiness of focus. You'd think even once she might try to surprise people by not going back down in the rabbit hole but evidently she has seniority at the Times and no sense of shame or decency.
