In my last post I discussed that the President is correct that we need to politicize gun violence if we are to ever solve the problem.

The typical GOP canards about people not guns kill people, or it's not about guns it's about mental illness or maybe if we all had guns in our holsters we'd all feel secure just don't work.
Not assuming the goal is to solve the problem rather than carrying the water of the NRA.
So it is past time to politicize the issue-to 'not politicize the issue' means we agree not to solve it but go back to Starbucks and eating that popcorn.
So more parents or children or friends or family will lose their loved ones for not good reason. What needs to be done is not complicated. The Brady bill works. Making sure that mentally ill people can't get their hands near a gun is straightforward.
Today Paul Waldman was giving us the Bernie Maniac line that he hasn't been treated fairly from the press. I'd love to hear what Waldman thinks of Hillary's treatment.
In point of fact the political scientist John Sides shows Bernie has gotten plenty of coverage relative to his changes-perhaps even more than you'd expect. As for tone, Bernie simply has been not criticized at all-while Hillary's has been just awful and totally unfair.

But if you want to discuss Bernie's issues fine-this is an issue he's not so strong on: gun control.
His comments tonight sounded more in the Republican 'Let's not fight' vein. He seemed to think we need to be calm about this. Only Hillary Clinton really came out and said what needs to be done:
"Another devastating shooting. We need sensible gun control measures to save lives, and I will do everything I can to achieve that. -H"

Bernie's answer is almost as bad as the GOPers offering their thoughts and prayers but nothing else or maybe vague talk about the mentally ill.
We don't need to be calm or ruminate on mental health. We need to do something about making sure the mentally ill don't get guns.
Now as a diversion those opposed will claim that there's no magic bullet to do this-that we can't come up with a foolproof way. If we can't do it perfectly they seem to think we shouldn't do it at all.
This ignores that the Brady bill has been very effective. And this reminds us that Bernie didn't support this either.

Considering that we have an epidemic in gun violence in our country currently this is a real source of concern.
