This is what he said on Meet the Press yesterday. Which is fine but I think he needs to be questioned more fully on this.
What does that mean? A Hillary Super PAC was killed for attacking Bernie on Socialism. Now I think they went about it in a very clumsy way: they compared him to Hugo Chavez.
Now I don't even think that comparison is out of bounds. After all: He says he's a socialist as did Chavez. So why not ask for the difference?
But the Correct the Record piece criticized Bernie for being in on Chavez's oil assistance problem that helped many low income Americans get heat. That was one of the few things you can't criticize Chavez for and any decent Congressman like Bernie should have gone along with it.
But I do think we need to understand what a socialist much less a democratic socialist is before we consider voting for one.
For instance, Ralph Nader was a socialist and he ran for privatizing the Fortune 500. Does Bernie plan on doing that?
Does he plan on nationalizing any industries? If not how does he call himself a socialist? Does he disprove or not of having a private market system?
Now in response to questions like this he's argued that he wants us to be more like Sweden or Germany. Fine, but these aren't socialist countries but capitalist countries with a welfare state which I believe in as does Hillary.
So this is a fair question whether or not Hillary should bring it up herself. Hopefully the moderator does tomorrow night.
