Latest GOP Dysfunction: RNC Faces Mutiny From Presidential Candidates on Next Debate

It just keeps getting worse. Gail Collins talks about how HRC has had the perfect October.

"So, Hillary Clinton. Skipping down the street. Sun is shining. A small and brightly colored bird is perching on her shoulder. Look — is that a rainbow?"

"Wow, what a good month she’s having. Certainly she’s due, by the sheer laws of probability. Nobody has as many bad months as Hillary Clinton. But this is really one heck of a run. Do you think there’s been an intervention? I just looked up a magic spell for “achieving a dream job” and it involves candles, cinnamon incense and bergamot oil. Just saying."

Of course, much of what has made her month so good is the GOP party's month has been so bad. And it just keeps getting worse.

We know about the total loss of credibility for the Benghazi Committee.

The GOP primary is a clown show where the leading candidates have never served in any elective office in their lives. The GOP doesn''t agree with Max Weber that politics is an vocation, evidently!

The Dems' most likely candidate has the most impressive resume of experience and accomplishment in American politics and these guys are falling in love with candidates the greener the better.

This same dynamic is seen in the House which can't even elect a Speaker. You know why those GOPers in Congress were crying after Kevin McCarthy took himself out of the race? Because they finally came face to face with the reality that their Grand Ole Party is a party no more.

Sorry, if you can't even find a consensus among this minimal level of selecting a Speaker in what sense are you actually a party anymore? Guys like Abraham Lincoln and Thaddeus Stevens are rolling in their graves-the party's founders.

Yet just as with the Presidential race, the race for Speaker seems to be totally biased against people who actually have the experience required to have a chance of actually being effective Speakers.

Now the GOP candidates can't agree with the RNC over the rules of the next GOP debate. The party's primary leader Trump, is threatening not to come at all if certain requirements aren't met. Other candidates are getting into the act and also threatening not to show up.

Meanwhile. Ben Carson, who was second behind Trump has taken a Siesta on the campaign to go on a book tour.

Ok, so friction between the RNC and the Presidential candidates:

"GOP frontrunner Donald Trump reportedly threatened to pull out of the next Republican presidential debate if his demands for the event aren't met during a chaotic Republican National Committee call with campaigns, Politico reported."

"During a Republican National Committee conference call on Thursday about the Oct. 28 debate, Trump's campaign manager reportedly said the real estate mogul would reconsider his participation if the debate runs longer than two hours including commercials, or doesn't include opening and closing statements by the candidates."

"According to Politico's account of the call – as verified by three unnamed sources – the conversation quickly devolved after two top RNC officials asked about each candidate's "red line" for circumstances that would force candidates to skip the debate."

"A strategist for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said the candidate might not attend without opening and closing remarks. Rand Paul aide Chris LaCivita responded: "If we don't have opening and closing statements, CNBC can go fuck themselves."

"Other campaign representatives chimed in, declaring the conference call a "debacle."

"Terry Sullivan, Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-FL) campaign manager, vowed Rubio would be at CNBC's debate come "hell or high water." An adviser to Jeb Bush also said the former Florida governor would attend the event in Boulder, Colo. regardless of the final debate format."

A lot has been made about the differences between the parties recently and I think it starts with this: the Dems are an actual political party which means that institutioanl authority is actually respected.

In Congress the Dems would never dare do Nancy Pelosi they way the GOP did Boehner. Candidates would not so blatantly thumb their nose at the DNC.

At the other night as noted, no Democrat had anything but good things to say about the President. This is the sign of a healthy party-or at least a functioning one that Weber would have recognized.

It is just amazing how anarchistic and nihilistic the allegedly conservative GOP has become.
