The Benghazi Committee was supposed to be the GOP's trump card-before the Donald made that a dirty word-their ticket to destroy the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton.
It was classic old Nixonian GOP tactics. Basically don't fight on issues where you know you will lose, instead use McCarthyist tactics.

It's just been a terrible couple of weeks for the House GOP.

They have a huge supermajority yet it may be that only the minority House Democrats can save them from themselves.

The Benghazi Committee was supposed to be the gift that kept giving as Trey Gowdy would jsut keep feeding cherrypicked snippets from the hearings to selected Clinton bashers in the press and sit back and watch her poll numbers tank.
But then, fittingly, a man name Kevin McCarthy spilled the beans on the GOP McCarthyite tactics that were intended to turn Hillary into today's version of Nixon's Pink Lady-Helen Callaghan who he successfully smeared as a Commie to win his first term in the GOP House in 1946.
The ironies piled on top of ironies are accruing over these last 14 days of disaster for the House GOP.
It turned out that the Committee would prove to be the gift that keeps on giving-for Hillary Clinton who turned the tables and put out two Benghazi ads. Talk about turning the tables.

Then she found another Kevin McCarthy that supports her.

Now the now Speaker less, rudderless GOP is rocked by new Benghaiz revelations.
"A former staffer for the Republicans on the House Select Committee on Benghazi alleged that he was unlawfully fired in part because he resisted focusing his investigative efforts on Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton, The New York Times and CNN reported Saturday."
"Bradley Podliska, an Air Force reserve major who served as an investigator for 10 months, told the news outlets that he plans to file a federal lawsuit next month against the select committee for wrongful termination."
"He alleged to CNN that he lost his job in part because he resisted the "partisan investigation" the committee pursued following revelations that Clinton exclusively used a private email account during her tenure as secretary of state. Podliska also said that his taking a leave from the committee to fulfill his active duty obligations factored into his termination, which would be unlawful."

This is leading to new criticism from Democrats naturally. This will only give them a larger megaphone to demand that the Committee be shutdown. But when does the GOP decide itself this needs to end?
I mean how many more revelations like this before they can't take the drop in their own poll numbers?
"A former investigator for the Republicans on the House Select Committee on Benghazi plans to file a complaint in federal court next month alleging that he was fired unlawfully in part because his superiors opposed his efforts to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the 2012 attack on the American diplomatic mission in the Libyan city. Instead, they focused primarily on the role of the State Department and former Secretary of StateHillary Rodham Clinton, he said.
"The former investigator, Bradley F. Podliska, a major in the Air Force Reserve who is on active duty in Germany, also claims that the committee’s majority staff retaliated against him for taking leave for several weeks to go on active duty. If true, the retaliation would violate the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994, which Major Podliska plans to invoke in his complaint, according to a draft that was made available to The New York Times."

Maybe Dems should demand putting the BI on hold till after the investigator has his own day in court next month. LOL.
When I saw the headline I knew you'd have a post. Lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL. I mean I had planned not to write anything for the evening. But as usual, it was famous last words. Once I heard that all bets are off.
