Lawrence O'Donnell last night talked about how there are real hearings like Watergate and then there is the Benghazi hearings. In a real hearing you have lawyers handle most of the questions.
These questions are not leading, they aren't speeches, and they aren't attempts to demand that someone admit when they stopped beating their grandmother.
But this has been what the GOP questions have been. For one thing, they don't want her to talk to long, it's more about making their own statements.
A real hearing asks questions and looks for answers. Today Trey Gowdy said his Committee has uncovered new info but spent most of his time justifying his Committee's very existence.
He basically had to make short work of previous committees to buttress the false claim that he's found something new.

We had obsessions with emails. One female GOPer claimed to have email info that showed HRC didn't know they were stationed in Benghazi at all.
Now we had the Ohio Congressman Roskam come out with the old reliable debate over whether or not the attack was inspired by a protest video or not.
Hiis first round of questions was an attempt to re-litigate why we were in Libya at all. It's fine to have that discussion but this is hardly what this Committee's mandate is about.

We also had more questions about Sydney Blumenthal and the false claim that he was her main Libya adviser.
So far we have learned nothing new but it has verified our suspicion that this is a witch hunt.
