HA Goodman is a Traitor to the American Idea

Ok, Charles Pierce doesn't call HA out by name. But clearly this applies to him.

"Damn them all now."

"Damn the delegates who will vote for this man. Damn the professional politicians who will fall in line behind him or, worse, will sit back and hope this all blows over so the Republican Party once again will be able to relegate the poison this man has unleashed to the backwaters of the modern conservative intellectual mainstream, which is where it has been useful for over four decades. Damn the four hopeless sycophants who want to share a stage with him for four months. Damn all the people who will come here and speak on his behalf. Damn all the thoughtful folk who plumb his natural appeal for anything deeper than pure hatred."

"Damn all the people who will vote for him, and damn any progressives who sit this one out because Hillary Rodham Clinton is wrong on this issue or that one. Damn all the people who are suggesting they do that. And damn all members of the media who treat this dangerous fluke of a campaign as being in any way business as usual. Any support for He, Trump is, at this point, an act of moral cowardice. Anyone who supports him, or runs with him, or enables his victory, or even speaks well of him, is a traitor to the American idea."

Agree with him here: even praising Trump in any way at this point is a traitor to the American idea.

I mention Goodman because what he is saying now that Bernie has endorsed That Woman, amounts to cheering for Trump rise in the polls in the delusional belief that if it moves enough in the next two weeks then the Democrats will be forced to take the ballots of the almost 18 million Democrats who voted for Hillary Clinton and chuck them in the garbage.

Let's not sugarcoat this. A vote for Jill Stein or Gary Johnson is a vote for Donald Trump. Here is Sean Illing at Salon-who supported and voted for Bernie in the primary:

"Bernie Sanders ran an extraordinary race. But he lost and Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee. Thus we have two choices in November: Trump or Clinton. Yes, I know who Jill Stein and Gary Johnson are, but neither of them will be president. This isn’t ideal. We ought to have more than two plausible choices. But we don’t. Sanders supporters can engage with that reality or they can ignore it. In either case, we have to confront it."

"Time to move on: Sanders has endorsed Clinton, but some of his backers are still pointlessly raging against reality."

"The primaries are over — progressives now must get together and make the easy choice: Clinton or Trump?"

HA Goodman did more than simply encourage Bernie or Busters to vote for Jill Stein. He is telling them that even Donald Trump is preferable to Hillary Clinton. Basically this argument amounts to: Hillary Clinton is not just not an ideal progressive she is the most unprogressive person on the face of the earth.

Goodman says 'don't fair Trump', that it's just a trap. Sure he's a racist, HA admits, but so what? Hillary is not really for ripping up the TPP so let''s elect an avowed racist, someone who pretended not to know who David Duke and the KKK are-but whose father had deep roots with them.

Trump just recently called Black Lives Matter a hate group and make up a lie about all these people-Black people-giving the Dallas mass shooter of police a moment of silence.

Yet, the Never Hillary crowd aren't worried over this. They say Hillary is not real change. I saw in the comments section at Illings piece that some Berners were complaining that all these Democrats voted for Hillary yet they accept the $15 MW in the plank.

The commenter went on to say this shows the opposition to Bernie was all about 'personality.'

But this was the point Hillary supporters made all along. It was not a debate about policy but tactics and how you achieve some shared progressive objectives.

I never said a $15 MW was a terrible idea. Just that $12 MW might have something to say for it too and that it's something of an academic debate. But now that $15 is in the platform why do Bernie or Busters still refuse to support her? Could it be that they are the ones focused on personality? That they have at some point become more than Pro Bernie or even pro progressive-ism but anti Hillary Clinton more than anything else?

Yes. Damn them all.

P.S. Also love what Pierce says here about the furor over Ruth Bader Ginsberg:

"Emboldened because this and other whopping untruths did not immediately sink his campaign, He, Trump now has taken his truthless palaver to another level entirely. This is what he said on the stump in Indiana on Wednesday, when he was taking auditions for the men who care so little for their country that they are desperate to be on a ticket with a serial arsonist."

"The other night you had 11 cities potentially in a blow-up stage. Marches all over the United States—and tough marches. Anger. Hatred. Hatred! Started by a maniac! And some people ask for a moment of silence for him. For the killer!"

"To be blunt, this didn't happen."

"There is no evidence from any news source that this happened. By anyone. Anywhere. Nobody can find anyone who "called for a moment of silence" for the mass killer of policemen. Nobody has counted "11 cities" that are potentially on the verge of a racial holy war. RaHoWa, cry the white-supremacists. And now the presumptive Republican presidential nominee has joined the chorus. That's where his rhetoric has led him, and far too many people have followed along."

"Yeah, but it was Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who "crossed the line." Jesus, these people."

  1. Yep, Goodman is the type that Pierce was calling out. the smug, "Bernie will win it all!! And Hillary is worse!!" attitude, the pivot to Stein, the constant Hillary hatred and bashing...of course people like Goodman can claim to be "progressive" while wanting Trump to win. Because they won't be affected by Trump, they can claim to punish Hillary and the Democrats while not giving two s&#ts about the innocents that will suffer under Trump and the GOP.

To hell with ALL of them.

  2. Yes, it's one thing to support Bernie in the primary. But now it's over. Bernie has endorsed her. At some point, being pro Bernie has become for the HAs of the world about being anti Hillary at all costs.

  3. O/T: Mike, this guy did a few Brexit videos already (he's a scientist in the UK). One of them Sumner watched (amazingly enough) and he really liked it. Now he has a new one and I think you'll like it too.

  5. He was never a pro Bernie guy. He has always been an anti-Hillary guy. He has the same weird obsession that many right wingers do with her. His pro Rand Paul pieces really speak volumes. I find myself interested in him though, because he is so obviously self absorbed and egotistical, living in the same fantasy land Trump is living in. Where reality doesn't matter, and its attack Hillary at any cost. Oh well.

  6. Yes, he is certainly anti Hillary more than anything now. As you say he used to be for Rand Paul-who believes Dennys' has the right to refuse Black people service, by the way.
