Rachel Maddow sounds almost hand-wringy about what the GOP has allowed Fox News to do to its own primary.
She declares that Fox has rigged the debate.
"This is nuts. I can’t believe they did this," Maddow said. "I mean, I get that Fox News only wants to have 10 candidates on the stage. They know, and everybody knows, that arbitrarily setting this 10-candidate cutoff when you’ve got 17 people running is gonna have politically-fatal consequences for if not all, at least most of the candidates who make that top 10."
"There is something qualitatively different between this just looking stupid and the system looking rigged — rigged by a cable news channel in order to justify apparently what they want," she said.

I don't disagree that they've rigged it-the difference is she seems somehow bothered by this whereas I applaud it. Look it''s their primary and they aren't going to listen to Rachel anyway. The one virtue of her needless hand-wringing is that when they hear it GOPers will probably double down even harder in favor of the Fox News System of debates.
I say it's their party and they can mess the whole thing up if they want to.

The rationale behind what Fox is doing-at the behest of the RNC that didn't want responsibility for this-because they're fighting the last war-the 2012 election where Romney got beaten up and woozy in all the endless number of debates he had to do.
However, they didn't foresee the rise of Trump. These new rules were supposed to protect Jeb. It's ironic that they may actually serve to entrench Trump at the top of the polls for much longer than would otherwise be the case.
Speaking of Trump, he continues to be the Trump Card for why I can't wait till tomorrow night.
"Donald Trump is pretty sure that attacks against him by Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) backfired on the two candidates, pushing them out of the running for the first Republican presidential debate."
During an interview with Breitbart on Tuesday, Trump reveled in the fact that neither Perry nor Graham made the cut for Fox News' Thursday night debate, but he did.
"And I find that really interesting, and I find it a great honor that that would happen, because in all fairness Lindsey Graham and Perry were really hitting me hard, and they went down in the polls. I am greatly honored by that," Trump told Breitbart News.
"After Trump's recent inflammatory comments about Mexican immigrants and his remark about Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Graham called the real estate mogul a "jackass" and Perry called him a "cancer." The comments scored the two candidates headlines, but according to Trump, it lost them the debate."
"Isn’t it an amazing phenomenon? You know what I said today? Lindsey Graham was at 3 and nobody went after me harder than Perry and Lindsey Graham. Perry was at 4 or 5, and he dropped down to 2 and Lindsey Graham dropped down to 0. I said that is the greatest honor. They attack me and they go down," he said. "I was surprised, to be honest with you."

Yes, I know all the VSP in the media are trying to tone down the Trump circus by reminding us this is early in the primary season and that Rick Perry had a big lead at this point in 2012.
Still, Trump's lead has been sustained. And I think the polarizing nature of Trump will make it tougher for him to disappear than Perry in 2012 who kind of peaked after he couldn't even think of 3 government agencies to shutdown.
Trump himself says he hopes this debate will be very civil. I think no one in America feels that way accept the RNC.

I'm waiting to see if any of these other GOP candidates try to get back in this by throwing mud at Trump. That will give us some fireworks. As Perry and Graham examples show, not necessarily to the advantage of those going after Trump either.
