The beauty of this is that there's an obvious fly in the ointment of both plans. Again this is why I am a Trump Democrat without reservations as I explained to my good friend and reader Tom Brown.
http://lastmenandovermen.blogspot.com/2015/08/why-im-trump-democrat.html
Trump wants to win but after that according to those close to him he really wants Jeb Bush to lose. I do too-I really don't want a Jeb presidency which is my nightmare scenario-along with Rubio; arguably Scott Walker would be even worse than the two phonies from Florida.
As far as I'm concerned the more Trump attacks Jeb the more I love it. The beauty of it is that Trump has a lot of media know-it-alls finally admit that they don't know: it seems unlikely that Trump could win and even now I have to admit that he's a long shot to win the party's nomination.
Yes he has lots of money and maybe he can get some donors somewhere. Evidently he is getting some funding.

But can you win the party without any endorsements? Even though Eric Cantor's endoresment of Jeb seems to mark him yet again as Mr. Establishment?

Still, if Trump did win the nomination that would be tremendous. The party would be absolutely shell-shocked. For one thing Trump is not a Republican. I mean this is supposed to be the party of free trade and Trump is the world's greatest protectionist in the Right wing populist tradition of Pat Buchanan or Ross Perot-though Perot was in the Center.
And while, yes, we've seen outsiders lead polls in the past-in 2013, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, and Newt Gingrich all had their 15 seconds leading the pack but:
1. Trump seems to have lasted a lot longer than them. So his staying power looks to be greater.
2. His domination is much more comprehensive. He leads everywhere among all Republican voters. And though he's accused of not giving us policy specifics-though this is selective outrage; what are Jeb or Scott Walker's policy specifics? No peaking-he leads among virtually all policy areas in polls. He gets 44% on the economy to 9% by Jeb.
3. He seems to truly be Teflon much to the chagrin of the Very Serious People in the media.

Today, again, he just keesp confouding what history tells us happens in a primary. I really do wonder what the political scientists make of this. According to them Trump can't win. I think that's probably so but even so according to them he probably shouldn't even have lasted as long as he has.
"What hasn’t killed Donald Trump has only made him stronger."
"Right off the bat, there was the shocking statement about the Mexican government sending over immigrant “rapists.” Then came the challenge to John McCain’s war hero status, a low blow from someone who avoided the draft. Next were the “bimbo” retweet attacks on Fox host Megyn Kelly (not to mention the reference to her “wherever”). His latest rants on “anchor babies” and nasty feuds with the media would have wounded any other mortal presidential candidate."
"But Trump is more popular than ever."
"A new poll released by Quinnipiac University on Thursday showed Trump’s lead growing, his favorability rating up and his unfavorability rating down."
"Trump is rewriting the playbook in which politicians who offend respond by equivocating, clarifying or apologizing. Instead, he goes on offense and takes his message directly to the heart of his critics’ support. The polls and the ratings don’t lie: Voters and viewers love it."

Trump's latest outrage with Jorge Ramos-considered the Latino community's Walter Conkike-will likely do two things.
1. Kill him even more with Latinos but then again he's already 50 points in the negative with them.
2. More or less inversely raise his numbers with his Right wing Tea Party supporters.
Now that's what I call a win-win. Basically look at it this way:
1. Jeb wants to lose the primary to win the general election. But how do you get to the general when you lose the primary? Trump is making this impossible has his plan is to:
1. Win the primary and inevitably lose the election.
Now that's what I call a win-win.

Yes, Mike, that's a good argument. However, getting back to your idea that Trump is somehow the best of the worst... imagine that our only two choices were Trump and Jeb. As I just explained in a comment on your previous post, one big thing Jeb has going for him in my book: there's no danger of a cult of personality forming around Jeb! Trump is running on cult of personality and nothing more.
ReplyDeleteI know Tom but as I answered in the other thread and in my new post
ReplyDeleteTom Brown, my best reader, and I debate Trump
http://lastmenandovermen.blogspot.com/2015/08/tom-brown-and-me-debate-trump.html
All candidates have supporters chant their name at rallies-even Jeb! LOL If this turns you off you just don't approve of political activity at all. LOL
No, I realize that there's some chanting at political rallies, and I accept that. Why I say Trump is all cult and nothing else is because he doesn't hold many principles that conservatives say are important to them: what would cause conservatives (and evangelicals/fundamentalists) to overlook those things? I think it's his cult leader status. It's like they're drunk with the "feelings" they get from him.
DeleteI did say I thought it was amusing (silly really) that my friends were so worried about the chanting at the Obama rally. Maybe they'd just finished watching "Triumph of the Will" or something... I don't know.
Ok so you weren't offended by the Obama chanting just your buddies. LOL
ReplyDeleteThere are some things he says they do like: teh slurs against Mexicans and the talk of building a wall and stopping not just illegal immigration but legal immigration.
That really is in line with what other Republicans like Rand Paul. John Kasich, and Chris Christie have proposed.
However, Trump is smart he combines positions on both the Right but also the Left and the Center.
Now the China bashing is out of favor with the GOP elites as they're for free trade but not the base.
