Why Stephen Colbert Loves the Trump Candidacy

He has been begging Trump to be around in time for the start of his show which is very soon now.

A New Republic piece though shows why Colbert must be 'foaming at the mouth' over Trump. Colbert on some level must really admire Trump. Professonal respect for a fellow political satirist. Trump is an epic satirist-whether deliberate or not.

"I had come because I think Donald Trump, whether he's in on the joke or not, is the most gifted political satirist of our time, and that makes his personal appearances worth attending and documenting. Every single thing he says merely strengthens my case. Last week, Trump's speech in Michigan rose to the level of art. A supporter held aloft a copy of Trump's 1988 book The Art of the Deal, and Trump said, in an exquisite parody of political faux populism, "That's my second favorite book of all time. Do you know what my first is? The Bible. Nothing beats the Bible. Nothing beats the Bible. Not even The Art of the Deal. You are going to love President Trump." How could you miss the chance to witness a moment like that?"

How could Colbert who had that great speech in front of George W. Bush not foam at the mouth over that?

Trump is brilliant. Yes, he's just a reality tv host. But reality tv is always better than reality or at least more interesting.

I'm never entirely sure if he's in on the joke or not. I think consciously no, but on some level he gets it.  I think he's not 100% aware but it's more than 0.

I love the Trump candidacy because it would be unthinkably boring without him and it would leave the GOP free to dissemble like usual.

"Before Donald Trump, Republican presidential candidates could deflect tough questions on immigration with vague promises to secure the border and oppose all “amnesty” for illegal immigrants."

I don't think the GOP ever gets back to vague again even after Trump leaves and hopefully that won't be for a long time.

Luckily last night he said he's not going anywhere.
