Why is John Kasich So Popular Among Hispanics?

Trump is an incredible negative 50% in popularity among Latinos but most other GOPers are doing ok-Kasich is just negative 3%.

"U.S. Hispanics are still getting to know most of the Republican contenders for president. At this point in the campaign, less than half have formed an opinion of any Republican candidate except Donald Trump and Jeb Bush. Partly because of this, Hispanics' views of most GOP candidates range from mildly positive to mildly negative. The sole exception is Trump, whose favorable rating with Hispanics is deeply negative."

I find this quite bothersome. Trump is the one making all the noise but his views-building a fence, ending birthright citizenship, even tamping down on legal immigration-are mainstream within the GOP. So the Latino community is mistaken to see Trump as an outlier.

If they haven't formed an opinion of the otter Republicans they should and very soon. I understand why Jorge Ramos is so upset about Trumpism but as this is so vital he should take time to question the other GOPers none of who have clearly ruled out ending birthright citizenship.

I pick on Kasich in this post because many praised him after the GOP debate as 'very human'-that this is surprising tells you a lot about today's GOP. Kasich is seen both as a 'straight shooter' and something of a moderate on certain issues.

So how moederate does he sound on immigratoin?

"We’ve been through the GOP’s birthright citizenship eruptions before. As far back as 1993, then-Congressman John Kasich co-sponsored a bill to end birthright citizenship. By 2010, FOX News Contributor-turned-candidate for Governor Kasich had continued his crusade against citizen children. That yearLindsey Graham joined Kasich when he responded to Democrats’ push for comprehensive immigration reform by accusing that immigrant mothers “drop and leave” their children in the U.S."

This is what Mr. Ramos ought to also be focusing on besides theatrics with Donald Trump-the fact that the entire party agrees with him. Trump has not 'pulled the GOP to the Right' just amplified how far to the Right they really are.
Recently Senator Graham-as Trump points out the Senator has just 4% to Trump's 30% in SC-

-has criticized Trump's plan to do away with birthright citizenship as 'impractical'-so has he changed his mind since 2010? Because  he didn't see it as very impractical then.

"Meanwhile, an interesting shift in Hispanics' ratings of Bush has occurred. His net favorable rating among Hispanics jumped from +1 in July (based on 28% viewing him favorably and 27% unfavorably) to +22 in August (41% favorable, 19% unfavorable), a significant change at a time when no other candidate's image has shown much movement. This could reflect Hispanics' support for Bush's more moderate tone on immigration -- at least before he referred to the children of illegal immigrants as "anchor babies." These figures will serve as a valuable baseline to see whether the ongoing criticism of Bush for using the term "anchor babies" hurts him in the Hispanic community."

Again, I see this as a very important area of outreach both for prominent Latinos like Mr. Ramos and the larger Latino community as well as liberals in general. To give Jeb credit for not being Donald Trump is the wrong way to judge him.

To be sure you'd have to hear the actual questions these Latino respondents were answering. Framing the question in certain ways could certainly mislead.

But once and for all: the entire Republican party and larger conservative movement is anti-immigrant and anti Latino not just Trump-and yes, 'even Jeb.'

Subjectively Jeb may be more constructive on immigration but just like his brother, the GOP would never let him do anything 'until the border is secure'-and for the Right it will never be secure.

Just like his brother Jeb will be unwilling to step on the toes of his party-just like the Wall Street Journal won't.

At best Jeb is 'subjecctively for immigration but objectively against immigration' as much as anyone else in the party.

After all as Rush Limbaugh and Pat Buchanan point out-why do we want more Latinos in the country as they'll all vote Democratic anyway so they can get their 'goodies.'

UPDATE: Hillary is almost as popular with Latinos as Trump is unpopular.

"On the Democratic side, only Hillary Clinton is a familiar figure to a substantial segment of U.S. Hispanics. As a result, she is the only one with a sizable net favorable score. Three-quarters of Hispanics have an opinion of Clinton. With 58% viewing her favorably and 18% unfavorably, she has a net +40 favorable score. This is remarkably similar to Clinton's image among Hispanics in advance of the 2008 presidential primaries, in June 2007, when 63% viewed her favorably and 20% unfavorably."
