Hillary's Emails are About Nothing but Politics

To tell you the truth it makes me angry to even write a post about this as it's so silly. There are real problems facing Americans. There is wage stagnation. There are students suffering under the strain of college debt-though Republicans think these folks are just outliers even if Marco Rubio himself says he had $100,000 of college debt a few years ago.

Of course, the only thing Rubio intends to do about it is claim this makes him immune to Hilary's discussion of college debt rather than coming up with his own plan to deal with the college debt epidemic.

You have riots in Ferguson, Missouri right now coming from the frustration of so many African-Americans with how many cases of police brutality seem to come out every day. There is the attack on voting rights.

There are so many real problems that need to be fixed. Republicans don't care about fixing any of them. They just want to discuss Hillary's server.

And even supposed liberal or at least reasonable journalists like Jamelle Bouie are drinking the Koolaid.

Bouie thinks there is something to see here.

I see he also thinks Trump won't hurt the GOP so he's really getting it wrong on all cylinders.

On Hillary nothing he says makes it sound like anything other than it is. He admits that she broke no laws. Yet its' still a big deal-mostly because he and the rest of the media want it to be:

"At the same time, Clinton’s email isn’t irrelevant. For journalists and other observers, it offers an important look at how she operates. That Clinton used private email at all shows her flexible approach to rules and regulations and a secretive reflex for conducting official business. “Using a personal email account exclusively is a potent prescription for flouting the Federal Records Act and circumventing the Freedom of Information Act,” explained Daniel Metcalfe, former director of the Justice Department’s Office of Information Policy, toPolitiFact. “And there can be little doubt that Clinton knew this full well.” It may not matter to voters, but it’s important to know if Clinton plans to carry this secrecy—and public evasiveness—to the Oval Office, if she’s elected president. (Here, it’s worth noting that, as Florida governor, Jeb Bush also conducted business from a personal account, and didn’t release his correspondence for seven years.)"

For me that's all I need to know. Why aren't they getting on Jeb about his emails? Because this is a phony issue that the GOP wants to hurt Hillary with. Yet Bouie isn't suggesting this says anything about Jeb's 'secretive nature.'

Selective outrage is a good tell that this is pure politics. Nor does Bouie do anything to make us think otherwise:

"And among Democrats? She’ll be fine. But if some start to rethink her electability, I won’t blame them. The press distrusts Clinton and holds her to a different standard than other politicians, while Republicans just despise her. Given that, she should have used her official email account, as a way to prepare for the worst and avoid undue scrutiny. Put differently, the choice to use a private email account was an obvious blunder with consequences that have marred her campaign, even if they don’t ever end it."

In other words, because Republicans despise her and you in the press hold her to different standards she should have used her official email account. On the other hand it's fine that Jeb didn't. Exactly. Pure politics.

For those who actually care about the facts rather than what the GOP talking points are saying about emailgate see Media Matters here.

All I know is that Benghazi turned up nothing so now it's emails. How many phony scandals does the GOP have to invent before we just admit that they are the little boys who have cried wolf just one too many times?
