No Hillary's Emails are not a Smoking Gun

Despite all the breathless coverage of the media.

http://lastmenandovermen.blogspot.com/2015/08/thank-goodness-for-james-carville.html

For me I agree with the great conservative philosopher Santanya: Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it.

This is certainly true with the GOP which is why they can't get out from under Trump now.

But they also learned nothing in the 90s. They think they can destroy Hillary over emails. I remember the 90s too well and it was all about the GOP trying to take down the Clintons over trivial matters like Whitewater, Travelgate, Vince Foster, and finally Monica Lewinsky.

More recently we had Benghazi which also like Carville says, didn't amount to a hill of beans. None of these scandals ever do. Remember all the furor over the IRS supposedly persecuting Tea Partiers.

On Emailgate it's as always about pure politics.

1. Jeb, Jindal, Scott Walker, and plenty other high ranking government officials have used emails.

2. The answer here from the Hillary haters is Well yes, but she's the Secretary of State. But Colin Powell also used private emails.

3. By the way I thought the GOP thought the market is better than the government at everything so on libertarian grounds you could argue that maybe private email is safer and more secure.

Or is email security the one thing Republicans are going to concede the government does better?

In any case government cyber-security is hardly impenetrable as government websites are being hacked into all the time.

4. Then the the Hillary haters say Yes but she used a server, a server!

But so did Jeb.

By now this long volley should make it clear it's not nearly as simple and categorical case of Hillary wrongdoing as the Hillary haters want it to be.

It never is. When the GOP wanted Bill Clinton to leave office over an extramarital affair Larry Flynt had this great expose that showed that every singe one of these GOP finger pointers were as the New Testament puts it Not without sin.

So what did the GOPers have to say: Well ok, but I can act as badly as I want because I'm not the President.

In other words there's always a desperate attempt to show why the Clintons are different and it always ends up failing. Then we move on to the next scandal and again we hear Ok they got away last time but this time it's different, I mean she has a server, as server!

There has been no smoking gun in 24 years and there's none now. It's all what is usually is: exercises in partisan hairsplitting.

Meanwhile the real needs and concerns of the American people are ignored. People are underemployed, their wages are way too low to survive and the GOP and media sheep are on and on about emails.

When FDR won in the 30s a point that liberals made was that You can't eat the Constitution. Indeed, you can't. If you don't have a job or don't make nearly enough money a sermon about Originalism is pretty worthless.

But the people are much less able to eat emails than even the Constitution.

UPDATE: Can you imagine if Hillary revealed emails with people's private information-Social Security numbers, etc.-during her email dump?
