Donald Trump's Politics of Being Sarcastic but not That Sarcastic

It's becoming a running joke. So now that Trump is making the wildly irresponsible claim that the only way he loses Pennsylvania is if there's voter fraud, the question of course being asked is: is this yet another case of Trump being 'sarcastic?'

“The only way we can lose, in my opinion — I really mean this, Pennsylvania is if cheating goes on and we have to call up law enforcement and we have to have the sheriffs and the police chiefs and everyone watching because if we get cheated out of this election, if we get cheated out of a win in Pennsylvania, which is such a vital state especially when I know what is happening here,” he said. “She can’t beat what’s happening here. The only way they can beat it in my opinion, and I mean this 100 percent, if in certain sections of the state they cheat.”

"Trump has repeatedly claimed the election is “rigged” against him, laying some of the blame on the media."

"Trump is trailing Clinton by more than 9 points in Pennsylvania polls, one of several key battleground states in which he has slumped recently."

I really mean this. I mean this 100 percent.

So he seems not to be joking or sarcastic in this case. But we'll see what the Trump campaign team says when they are interviewed.

It's been the pattern of every outrageous Trump blooper this week. Was he serious or joking about 2nd amendment people talking Hillary out? The Secret Service wasn't laughing.

Trump in that case claimed to not mean what he clearly meant. But some of his campaign team were off message and had said he was just joking.

Then there was the joke about Obama and Hillary being the co-founders of ISIS. Trump liked that line as he kept repeating it again and again.

While he insisted he meant what he said in this case-he rejected Hugh Hewitt's life preserver on his radio show that Trump didn't mean that literally; 'No, I mean he's the founder of ISIS-he later on said he was 'just being sarcastic.'

Then later yesterday at a rally, he said 'I was being sarcastic, although, to tell you the truth, I wasn't being that sarcastic.'

So we'll see what the evolutionary explanation for this is.

None of this should let us lose sight of just how irresponsible what he's doing really is. He's without any evidence-ie, baselessly-claiming that the system is rigged and that any result where he loses is not legitimate. The system runs on people having faith in it.

What he's doing is the equivalent of screaming fire in a crowded theater-where there is no fire.

Jamil Smith:

"Trump's campaign site now has a form to register as a "Trump Election Observer." Campaigns simply don't do this. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/lp/volunteer-to-be-a-trump-election-observer …"

Trump is inviting a goon squad to intimidate-mostly minority-voters.
"This looks like a sign-up sheet for an Election Day goon squad. Our elders know about this kind of “observation.”
