This is the secret weapon for the Democrats: Donald Trump.
This is why I've been a Trump Democrat, folks.
This is just a thing of beauty:
"Democrats in Senate races across the country are eager to see Republican voters nominate Donald Trump for president, hoping the bombastic businessman's controversial candidacy would doom GOP incumbent senators nationwide."
"Case in point: Arizona."
"Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, a Democrat trying to unseat veteran Sen. John McCain, released Monday a 60-second ad highlighting Trump's most jaw-dropping comments and noting that the long-time Republican incumbent said he would would support the GOP nominee, even if it turns out to be the real estate mogul."
"Donald Trump is dangerous for America," the ad says. "But no matter what Donald Trump says, John McCain would support him for president."
"The ad then shows a greatest hits of sorts for Trump, showing his comments about Sen. Ted Cruz and Fox News host Megyn Kelly, along with Trump saying he'd punch a protester "in the face" and criticizing McCain himself for being captured as a prisoner during the Vietnam War."
"He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured. OK? I hate to tell you," Trump said last year.
"The ad then quotes McCain saying he's a "loyal Republican" and would endorse the GOP nominee."
"McCain spokesperson Lorna Romero called the ad a "cheap, pathetic display" from Kirkpatrick, saying the congresswoman has backed President Barack Obama's "radical" agenda."

Up and down the Senate races, this will be the playbook.
It is just particularly beautiful to use this attack against John McCain. To hit him for being for Donald Trump, for being Trump's spiritual bedfellow.
I mean, this is the same Donald Trump who mocked him being a POW. And now he is being hit for being in the tank for Trump!
Again, a thing of perverse beauty. The campaign ads just write themselves. Tie every GOP to Donald Trump-and make the point that these are not just his sentiments either but the entire party's.
The Dems have plan here that they will wield like a scalpel. What they can do is capture a lot of spooked GOP moderates.
"Democrats draw plan to shatter the GOP."
"Through a combination of messaging and the ascendance of Donald Trump, Democrats see a path to cutting into the GOP coalition."
"Democrats are drawing blueprints for stealing GOP moderates from a rightward-driving Republican Party, saying the heist is key to scoring a White House win in November."
"Democracy Corps’ Stan Greenberg, a prominent national Democratic pollster, released data Monday morning that suggest moderate Republicans — nearly a third of the GOP base — are being ignored by their presidential candidates. These Republicans don’t revile Planned Parenthood — in fact, many prefer the women’s health group to pro-life groups and candidates who take hard-line stances on abortion. They’re supportive of same-sex marriage. They’re not enamored of the NRA. They have less rigid attitudes about sex. They accept climate science."

How many Tom Browns out there might the Dems win over this time, hey, Tom Brown?
You know swing voter and GOP moderate types? With Trump, a man who literally couldn't rule out the KKK as a hate group but who had to 'look into it?'
Marco Rubio is right. Many of us Dems have held our fire until the day that Trump is the nominee. But the day that happens, well...
True, a lot of Republicans just hate the Democratic party brand. But even so, many of those may just sit out rather than vote for Trump. Glenn Beck also said he would vote for neither.
Many conservatives also won't vote for Trump.

They won't vote for Hilary but we don't need them to.

Mike, that is a thing of beauty! I've noticed there's one writer between both RedState and TheResurgent, named "streiff" who's alone in saying he'd hold his nose and vote Trump should he be the nominee. He uses his posts to do nothing else at this point than to try and convince the rest of that crowd to do the same, but he's fighting an uphill fight. Erickson himself came up with the #NeverTrump idea, and pretty much everybody over there has adopted it: Never support Trump under any circumstances. They've hailed Senator Sasse as a hero for adopting this, and have been savaging as cowards and traitors all those who so far have fallen in behind Trump, especially Christie and Sessions, but also Sheriff Arpaio and LePage and Jan Brewer: disgraces to America all (according the all but Mr. streiff). The argument against streiff is something like this "We get HRC and a 7-2 liberal majority for decades to come on the SC either way, so why not KEEP our dignity in the process???" Their since of resignation is almost orgasm producing.
ReplyDeleteSo in his attempt to change minds today Mr. streiff posted an article proclaiming "Cruz rejects #NeverTrump!"... only because he continued to say he'd support the nominee. This is great because they LOVE Cruz over there, and this looked like a shot at Cruz, so it didn't go over well.
Meanwhile I notice that Erickson is saying that True Christians who "believe in Bible inerrancy" don't support Trump and will never support Trump. People who take their Christianity seriously!
What an incredible BLOWHARD!!!... Defining Trump resistance as being about believing "Bible inerrancy"... I hope that get's lot of play, and I hope a lot of Erick's erstwhile fans feel deeply offended by that.
http://theresurgent.com/the-more-a-person-follows-christ-the-less-a-person-supports-trump/
So there you have it: Trump support is a "Mark of the Beast"... it demonstrates whether you believe Bible inerrancy or not, and thus whether you'll burn forever screaming in agony for all eternity. Another reason to oppose Mr. streiff's logic!
Yeah, Erick and Rubin and others have dreams of running a new party of Trump is the nominee. That sounds doomed. But I doubt that rabble can get along.
ReplyDeleteThe natural place for that 1/3 of the ignored GOP you mention is the right wing and center of the Democratic part.
Mike, it's these kinds of comments that feed my soul:

Combining this well-researched post by streiff with Dan's well-researched post regarding Trump's chances in November, here's what I've learned today: (1) Trump will be our nominee; (2) Trump will lose big to Hillary in the fall.
I think I'm about done with politics. I can't take this anymore.

Basically our only hope is for Rubio to drop out immediately. And even then, we're still needing a successful Hail Mary pass by Cruz.
That is if I had a soul, which I don't.
