Time for Dems to Unite and Fight the Common Enemy

In my last post, I wrote about how Bernie has now done a 180 on superdelegates. Before, it was some kind of crime against democracy for them to vote contrary to the popular vote. Now he is saying they should ignore the popular vote and vote for Bernie even though their states aren't.

Sure the SDs are going to give it to the guy who just admitted to renting the Democratic party the other night because he wins Idaho and Utah. The old argument was that somehow she is a 'regional candidate' because she won the South.

Now that's gone, Bernie is the better choice even though Democratic voters prefer Hilary and now he actually expects the party to unilaterally choose him over her.

If only I were kidding. Hopefully he rethinks this idea soon. Voters are going in the opposite direction. They want to wrap this up. They also apparently haven't appreciated Bernie's increasingly negative campaign of the last few weeks. His efforts to NAFTA her to death and tie her to Rahm Emmanuel didn't work.

As David Axelrod notes, she still got the same huge slice of black voters in Illinois despite the Rahm strategy.

Look, I think that Bernie will get credit by many for running a great campaign. But if he hangs around for three months just to take potshots at her, it will wear thin. Many will turn against him. I mean if he can't win why keep attacking her on her speeches and her super PAC? Especially since he has a super PAC anyway.

It's ironic-he outspent her last night and still lost.

Wouldn't he at that point be doing nothing but Donald Trump's dirty work?

"Democrats want to fight Trump, not each other. The exit polls were fuzzy on the topic, but the voters seemed to be sending their party a clear, collective message: Ditch the character-building internecine slap fight and unite to fight the common enemy."

"In a year where establishment candidates have tumbled like protesters at a Trump rally, Clinton — the most entrenched political veteran to seek the presidency since Nixon — triumphed precisely because she is so committed to mastering of the details of a job Trump would delegate to super smart and thus-far-unidentified really terrific people."

"Despite Sanders’ repeated calls for a revolution — and his seven-to-one success with voters under 30 — Democratic voters have overwhelmingly prioritized experience over a candidate’s “outsider” bona fides. That trend held in Ohio and Florida, the two biggest Tuesday prizes, where Democratic voters expressed revulsion at the spate of violent events at Trump rallies."

"The comfortable victory in Ohio is a huge dose of reassurance for the Clinton campaign and a big blow to Sanders, who was buoyed by a stunning victory in Michigan last week. The Vermont senator has not given any indication of bowing out, with his campaign earlier on Tuesday vowing to stay in until the convention. And knockout blows are hard to come by in the Democratic race, where — in contrast to a GOP contest Tuesday punctuated by winner-take-all primaries — all delegates are awarded proportionally."

"But with Sanders largely sidelined, the Democratic establishment is rising up against Trump. Obama on Tuesday gave a sobering speech about the “vulgar and dismissive rhetoric” in the GOP race and scolded Republicans for not more strongly speaking out against him. On Wednesday, the effort will ratchet up with Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid holding an event at the Center for American Progress, a home for Clinton’s allies, to condemn Trump and “Republicans’ platform of hate.” Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz will deliver her own blows, appearing alongside Sen. Chuck Schumer, to name and shame Trump and the larger GOP."

"Even Sanders himself seemed to take part in the pivot. In an hour-long speech to supporters in Phoenix, the senator made no mention of the day’s results, and made only two mentions of Clinton. Instead, he focused on Trump: "The reason that Donald Trump will never be elected president is the American people will not accept insults to Mexicans, to Muslims, or women," Sanders said to a roaring crowd of supporters. "The American people will not accept a president who insults our veterans. Or who several years ago led the so-called birther effort which was an ugly, ugly attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the presidency of Barack Obama."

I think he had better confine himself to attacking Trump going forward. The nasty attacks on Hillary will not be appreciated.

If he wants to convince us he's a Democrat, he should start acting like one.

  1. Mike, looks like Jennifer Rubin is on board (she continues to pivot towards supporting Clinton, even though she despises Clinton):
