Liberals and Democrats Begin to Mobilize Against Trump

There is a lot of concern about how unpredictable an opponent Trump is, though, I will say it again: Trump is the Democrats' dream opponent. If you don't want this fight you're in the wrong business.

One thing that I find irritating is folks who are overly risk adverse. When the odds are in your favor you play them. Right now HRC has a 78 percent chance against Trump.

How will Trump go after Hillary? He will hit her with everything and anything of course. I'm sure we'll hear more about Monica Lewinsky and that Bill Clinton is a 'predator.' But I don't agree with the pundits who say that this 'tied the Clinton team in knots' when he did it in January.

My guess is that they want Trump to be the nominee and therefore didn't even want to upset the applecart by responding right then. Which was smart. Look, the one guy who can't call anyone a sexist is Donald Trump. I mean here is a guy whose ex wife accused him of raping her because he had a bad hair day.

But it is good to see the liberal and Democratic groups already mobilizing for Trump. This suggests that they are moving past the primary already and ready to unify against the Trumpist enemy.

"Democrats want to fight Trump, not each other. The exit polls were fuzzy on the topic, but the voters seemed to be sending their party a clear, collective message: Ditch the character-building internecine slap fight and unite to fight the common enemy."

"This is why I think that Bernie can't keep razzing her about paid speeches and having a super PAC. At the end of the day this only helps Trump going forward-it doesn't get him any closer to the nomination."

"Leading liberals and progressive groups are turning their gaze away from the Democratic primary and toward efforts to unite the left against Donald Trump, framing him as a dangerous and unprecedented candidate who poses an existential threat to the progressive movement and the nation."

"Ad campaigns are in the works. There are calls for massive voter mobilizations and screeds from leading donors circulating within liberal circles. Major labor groups are organizing their members on the ground in swing states. Within the Democratic Party apparatus, top elected leaders are beginning to speak out both collectively and individually in ways that reach beyond standard presidential-year posturing. The sense of urgency in some corners of the left is high enough that Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a progressive icon who has gone to great lengths to avoid being part of the Democratic presidential conversation in 2016, hinted on Monday that she might soon get involved with the effort to stop Trump."

"Elizabeth Warren refused to let media pundits push her into saying that Hillary should release her speech transcripts which is a way of saying enough is enough."

"Sen. Elizabeth Warren declined multiple opportunities on Thursday to say whether Hillary Clinton should release the transcripts of her paid speeches to Goldman Sachs and other financial institutions."

"The Massachusetts Democrat and progressive icon, who has not publicly endorsed Clinton or Bernie Sanders, was pressed on the issue during an interview with "CBS This Morning."

“Look, I think that our candidates are out doing what they should be doing in a primary. They are debating the issues," said Warren, whose outspokenness against Wall Street has fueled and defined her career both in and out of Congress.

Anchor Norah O'Donnell interjected, noting that the senator had not answered her question, which has persisted as an issue throughout the Democratic primary even as the former secretary of state has amassed a large lead over Sanders in delegates.

“They answer for themselves," Warren responded, dodging again. "What I’m doing is I’m telling you what I think should be going on right now in this primary."

O'Donnell followed up: "It’s a yes-or-no question. Should she release the transcripts or not?"

“What I’ve told you is I think that the primaries are doing exactly what they should be doing," Warren said. "And the candidates are being tested.”

Clearly she's not taking sides and is most concerned with stopping Trump at this point as more and more liberals are.
