Jeb! Endorses Lyin' Ted

It's amazing that Ted Cruz is becoming the Great Establishment Hope but he is getting a lot of endorsements: Romney, Lindsay Graham, Carly Fiorina, Scott Walker is going to try to use every trick in his arsenal of dirty tricks to win Wisconsin for the most hated man in Washington-hated by his own Republican party.

"Jeb Bush throws his support to Cruz (poor Marco), and Cruz interprets the move this way:

"The endorsement, Cruz said, “is further evidence that Republicans are continuing to unite behind our campaign to nominate a proven conservative to defeat Hillary Clinton in November, take back the White House, and ensure a freer and more prosperous America for future generations.”

"What this really means is that Cruz is hoping Republicans are beginning to coalesce behind the idea that he should be the consensus choice at a contested convention, and Jeb’s endorsement is significant because it signals that this is possible."

The thinking behind this is that Cruz is the one to deny Trump the 1237-currently he's at 739 to 465 for Cruz and 143 for Kasich.

"CRUZ URGES KASICH TO DROP OUT: Politico reports on the Cruz camp’s push:

"Cruz…is pushing for Kasich to get out of the race, telling Bill O’Reilly on Fox News on Tuesday night that Kasich “can only be a spoiler.”…”He went 0-for-27, he won his home state and then he’s going to proceed to lose this series of states,” Cruz said, adding, “At this point what he’s doing doesn’t make any sense unless he’s auditioning to be Trump’s vice president.”

"Not really. Kasich is hoping to be the candidate who gets selected over Trump at a contested convention. And as long as both Kasich and Cruz continue to vie for that prize, it makes it more likely that Trump wins the nomination outright."

Kasich is hoping that he gets chosen at a brokered convention which he insists is inevitable. You hear a lot of pundits-for some reason Lawrence O'Donnell can't see the forest for the trees with his Trump Derangement syndrome-who are trying to spin that it's a democratic result for Trump to get say 48 percent of the vote to be denied the nomination and with Kasich at 3.5 percent of the vote to be handed it.

Lawrence's total lack of strategic thinking is a shame. I can't believe this is a guy who used to work for Bill Clinton.

As for stopping Trump, I'm far from certain that at this point a two man field is salvation. There are a lot of upcoming states in the Northeast, where Cruz doesn't have a prayer. Kasich argues he can compete in some of these states. Not that the polls are indicating anything like that just yet.

But some new polls seem to suggest that a head to head matchup is not the salvation for #StopTrump it's held to be:

"Donald Trump would lead either Ted Cruz or John Kasich in a two-way race, according to the results of a Quinnipiac University national poll released Wednesday."

"Asked whom they would like to win the GOP nomination, 43 percent of the 652 Republicans surveyed said they wanted Trump to emerge as the party's choice in Cleveland, followed by 29 percent for Cruz and just 16 percent for Kasich, with 9 percent undecided."

"In a head-to-head matchup between Trump and Cruz — with Kasich voters re-allocated to their second choices — the Manhattan real-estate mogul earned 46 percent support, compared with 37 percent for Cruz and 12 percent undecided. While the Texas senator drew slim advantages among tea party supporters, white, born-again evangelicals and those describing themselves as very conservative, Trump drew far greater support from voters who described themselves as somewhat conservative, moderate or liberal, as well as among men, women and those 45 years and older."

"With Cruz supporters shifting to their second choices, Trump would have a large lead. Fifty-six percent said they would vote for Trump, with just 25 percent opting for Kasich and 13 percent undecided. More than seven-in-10 (71 percent) of tea party supporters said they would vote for Trump over the Ohio governor, along with strong majorities in every demographic and ideological group, including those describing themselves as moderate or liberal."
