The Bernie folks new strategy seems to be that they will get more black votes in the North. Those black voters in the South have been dismissed as red state voters.
Ben Jealous might want to leave out this jibe of HRC being a 'Goldwater Girl' as this was when she was 16 and not even able to vote.
What they're hoping to do, somehow, is convince black folks that Hillary doesn't care about them after all.
After big losses in the South: more details in Sanders’s stump speech, meeting with more activists, and questioning Clinton’s record as a friend to the black community in places like Michigan, Illinois, North Carolina.

What is really strange is this idea of Bernie's that black voters in the North are somehow congenitally more open to his message with black voters in the South.
"Bernie Sanders’ campaign for president will ramp up its outreach to black voters in delegate-rich states like Illinois, North Carolina, and Missouri, campaign aides tell BuzzFeed News."
"In recent weeks, voters from more diverse states — and in particular, black southern voters — have delivered huge, decisive wins for Hillary Clinton. In advance of Super Tuesday, Sanders predicted more losses among black voters in the southern primaries, but suggested black voters in other parts of the country would be more supportive of his candidacy."
“I think you’re going to see us doing — and I think the polls indicated it, much better within the African-American community outside of the Deep South,” Sanders said onThis Week. “You’re going to see us much better in New York state where I think we have a shot to win, in California and in Michigan.”
He didn't bother to name any of these polls which showed he does better with Northen blacks.
So the Bernie Coalition is one where Southern blacks aren't worth listening to. They will be wholly disenfranchised. This is the Bernie path to victory.
As for Bernie's black friends, they do more harm than good half the time. Between Ben Jealous, Cornell West, or Killer Mike, these friends have just given him more mop up duty.
"Privately, surrogates are figuring out how to ratchet up the rhetoric against Clinton, in ways meant to make black voters wonder how concerned she really is about the black community. In particular, the campaign has been in talks about how to use avideo of Killer Mike talking about cracks in the “firewall,” and underlining the difference between the candidates’ reactions when confronted by Black Lives Matter demonstrators."
Killer Mike. Hopefully he doesn't talk about uteruses or Monica Lewinsky again.
“The campaign is going to put more effort into churches, roundtables, and try to put pressure on Hillary now that the southern states are gone,” said a campaign surrogate briefed on the campaign’s plans in Chicago. “He just needs to make inroads and a lot of it is going to focus on clergy outreach.”
Again with this 'Now that the South is done' thing. Why is he only able to reach Northern blacks?"
"Jealous argued that the presence of Chicago in the lives of three prominent politicians is notable: that President Obama was a community organizer there, Sanders was a civil rights protester, and Clinton, he said, was a supporter of Barry Goldwater, who campaigned against the Civil Rights Act."
"(Sanders attended the University of Chicago where he was arrested for protesting; Clinton, who grew up in Illinois, was infamously a “Goldwater girl” as a teenager and later significantly changed her political views while in college.)"
Then why is she Obama's handpicked successor then? Why is Ben Jealous scandalized that she changed her views in college? Until 1996, Elizabeth Warren was a Republican. Is this the new litmus test?
As for the reaction to BLM, I think it's a matter of opinion whose response you prefer. Black voters in general seem to be in a hardheaded pragmatic mood of just let's get it done.
BLM is also by no means loved by all African-Americans. There have been a number who have criticized BLM at least for some of its tactics.
The older civil rights generation is much more lukewarm on BLM.
But in my opinion and that of a number of folks I've spoken with, she handled her encounters with them very well.
But the assumption at the heart of Bernie's outreach is dubious: that there is this huge divide between Southern and Northern blacks.
