Listen, I've never been a big fan of Nancy Reagan. I hated her husband and never had much affection for her. But I can understand that her death is a loss for many people. many Americans.
Hillary went to speak at her funeral today which is an example of what a President does. Even someone you don't like deserves a decent burial.
But, of course, a new attempt was made to demonize her words at Reagan's funeral.
"As usual Clinton is being scrutinized in a way that other candidates aren’t. Acknowledging the Reagans’s legacy on HIV/AIDS, Clinton credits the former President and First Lady with starting a national conversation:"
“And because of both President and Mrs. Reagan–in particular Mrs. Reagan–we started a national conversation when before nobody would talk about it, nobody wanted to do anything about it. And you know that too is something that I really appreciate with her very effective, low-key advocacy but it penetrated the public conscience. And people began to say, ‘Hey, we have to do something about this too.’” – Hillary Clinton
"Note, that Clinton does not, by any means, credit the Reagans with action against the disease, but rather, she correctly notes that when the most powerful man and women in the world publicly acknowledge something for the first time, as the Reagans did at the time, it contributes an important symbolic contribution to the national dialogue."
Factually, Clinton is correct, the Reagan was the first POTUS to publicly acknowledge AIDS.
“One of our highest public health priorities is going to be continuing to find a cure for AIDS.” – Ronald Reagan
Now, many charge that the Reagans turned a blind eye to the disease when they could have done so much more to prevent it. There convincing evidence to support this, but that does not make it less true that as President Reagan’s public statement on the disease did have significance – as do most public statements by Presidents (duh). "
"A great irony is that where the Reagans did not act to fight HIV/AIDS, the Clinton Foundation and both of the Clintons individually have done extraordinary work to combat the illness."
"In fact, just this month at Radio City, leading HIV/AIDS advocate Elton John thanked the Clintons’ for their hard work on behalf of and unconditional support for efforts to combat the disease."
"Watch how long the press holds on to this “blunder” in contrast to how quickly they let Bernie off the hook for his actually false comment about Black “ghettos”.

The idea that she is a homophobe for trying to be charitable at Reagan's funeral is the usual absurd attempt by Hillary haters to take her down with any quibble, no matter how tendentious.
All she said was that Nancy Reagan acknowledged the problem. The Reagans, its true, failed to do anything to their great discredit.
But they did mention it for the first time which does have some social efficacy.
Rachel Maddow right away jumped all over this by tweeting the story and putting a ? above it. A little while later Hillary clarified her remarks.

I think what she said was misconstrued. But she apologized and all the more power to her.
It's got people who should be whole heartedly supporting her grumbling. They're overreacting to this. Sanders has been wildly bumbling on anything outside his immediate sphere, but let her be anything less than crystal clear on anything, and it's wails and jeers. What a season. Thanks for your commentaries.
