Ben Carson Endorses Donald Trump

Trump made news last night and mentioned this at the debate. It was one of the few memorable moments at an uncharacteristically boring GOP debate.

"Ben Carson announced his endorsement of Donald Trump on Friday, hailing him as a "leader with an outsider's perspective."

"Right off the bat, the retired neurosurgeon addressed the elephant in the room: the history of past insults and bad blood between himself and Trump."

“Well first of all, we buried the hatchet," Carson said. "That was political stuff. And, you know, that happens in American politics, the politics of personal destruction. All that is not something that I particularly believe in or anything that I get involved in. But I do recognize that it is a part of the process. We move on, because it’s not about me, it’s not about Mr. Trump. It’s about America.”

Breaking down his logic for endorsing Trump, Carson remarked upon "a lot more alignment philosophically and spiritually than I ever thought there was" with the real-estate mogul.

"First of all, I’ve come to know Donald Trump over the last few years. He’s actually a very intelligent man who cares deeply about America," Carson said. "There are two different Donald Trumps. There’s the one you see on the stage and there’s the one who’s very cerebral, sits there and considers things very carefully. You can have a very good conversation with him, and that’s the Donald Trump that you’re going to see more and more of right now.”

I mean, if Ben Carson was going to endorse someone who would you have expected him to? This was the obvious choice.

Trump later conceded that Carson had a point. "Perhaps there are two Donald Trumps" the real estate mogul said.

"Carson also laid out his argument for the party and country to unify around Trump as the nominee and president."

"I want the voice of the people to be heard. I want the political process to play out in the way that it should play out, and I think the Republican Party particularly would be very wise not to adopt, let’s stop this guy and let’s promote this guy's policy but rather start thinking about what are the things that are going to be helpful in America," Carson said.
More surprising than this is that Carly Fiorina went for Ted Cruz. Just shows you it's over for Rubio.

Harry Enten tweeted this:

That's why some Bernie fans confuse me so much. If there was a reasonable delegate shot for him, I'd embrace it."

That's because for them it's not about facts it's about belief. Which for me is why they are so dangerous.

All I can say is March 15, baby. That will be D-Day. No matter how you want to size it-he can win Ohio, he can win Missouri, but she will still have 1700 delegates and be two thirds of the way there.

Goldie Taylor called this two weeks ago.

The sooner we don't have to hear from these folks the better. These are the same Emoprogs who hated Obama and I will be pleased once they learn there will be no revolution. Sorry, but their propensity to believe rather than worry about boring facts we don't need.

The Dem party has been the party of pragmatism and sensible Left of Centerism. We don't need a Dem party as ideologically dogmatic as the GOP.

  1. The Carson endorsement didn't go over too well on Erick Erickson's site. Check out this post:

Ben Carson IS The Scum Of The Earth

Gotta love that title! Lol (angry viper pit and popcorn... is there a better combination?). Here's a choice bit:

"Ben Carson, you are dead to me and I wish you nothing but the worst. I hope everyone sees the profiteering, bookselling fraud you really are.

However there is an upside. We can now add Ben Carson’s name to the growing list of fraudulent hacks that support Trump. The loser, has been club of Chris Christie, Sarah Palin, Jerry Falwell Jr. and Robert Jeffress has a new member."

RedState writer Leon Wolf isn't much kinder.

I just checked Jennifer Rubin... she didn't have anything about Carson, but this one made my heart sing... check out this title:

Let’s scrap the GOP and start over

Last night was a low moment for the party.

    :D (that's a beaming smile a mile long)

    1. Do you suppose this election is what finally did Nancy Reagan in?

    2. Mike, Jennifer Rubin's piece is near euphoria producing for me. That's EXACTLY what I want to see happen. Here's some choice bits:

The lowest moment of last night — maybe the lowest of the election and in the history of the GOP — came before the debate, when Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus pledged that the RNC “is going to support the nominee, whoever that is, 100 percent.” This came on a day in which Donald Trump’s campaign, despite an eyewitness and audio evidence, denied that its manager strong-armed reporter Michelle Fields — and then savaged her as “delusional.” It comes on a day when violence yet again occurred at another Trump rally, violence that Trump has made light of or encourages (as Jake Tapper ably pointed out).

If by some small miracle a non-Trump nominee wins, it will be essential to, in essence, start anew, with new party leadership. It’s easy to see who should not be included — the mix of slimy opportunists (e.g., New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ben Carson, Newt Gingrich), nativists (e.g. Sen. Jeff Sessions, David Duke) and unblinking yes-men (the RNC leadership, Republican Jewish Coalition leadership) unwilling or unable to recognize that this is an existential moment for the party and the country.

If Trump gets the nomination, Republicans who regard Trump’s message and conduct as wholly unacceptable will be obligated to leave the party, withhold their financial support and refuse to vote for him. In the short run, it means finding a third conservative candidate who does not excuse despotic repression of dissidents, put the United States at odds with the entire Muslim world and advocate ordering troops to kill noncombatant women and children (a war crime). In the longer run, it means starting a different center-right party, leaving the GOP to the bigots, the con men and the fans of dictators.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES!... Absolutely! Now whether it will or not... a different question.

    3. This is starting to be a fantasy of mine within reach: a contested convention in which a literal brawl breaks out... Nazi vs Communist in 1932 style street battles... while the nation watches on live TV, jaws agape, thinking, "That's a POLITICAL party????"... followed shortly thereafter by landslide blowout for Clinton, maybe with Trump only getting the deep South. Just for spite, let that include Erickson's home state of Georgia.... and then down-ticked disaster for the GOP as well.

Followed shortly thereafter by all four liberals on the Supreme Court resigning, and Hillary appointing five 18 year old Olympic athletes and health nuts, with proven family longevities averaging well into their 90s.

I want to see the right wing extremists (like Erickson) start planning their one way mission to Mars shortly afterwards.

    4. I've gotta savor that one line again, I love it so dearly:

"...leaving the GOP to the bigots, the con men and the fans of dictators.

Nearly perfect... I'd add religious scam artists, conspiracy theory fruitcakes, and all around violent low-life nutters. Basically the GOP as it is right now.

    5. Mission to Mars: this country was founded by religious nuts who wanted to be able to impose their religious nuttery on their children and each other without interference from the state... maybe it's a time for those religious nuts to seriously think about abandoning "the Old World" (Earth), just like their forefathers did. I for one, would be happy to pack them all a lunch, and give them a ride to the launch site.

    6. Yes this is some great stuff from Jennifer Rubin.

You're making me laugh this morning

"I'd add religious scam artists, conspiracy theory fruitcakes, and all around violent low-life nutters."

The religious scam artists are already covered by "the con men". You are right that including conspiracy theorists and violent low life nutters would only leave about 7 people to form a new party.

There was a good article on Alternet a few months back which basically showed that the entire GOP governing platform is held up ONLY by conspiracy theories.

In regards to the Mars mission I wonder what would be on their list of necessary things to pack for their trip? What things that they considered necessary to start a society anew? Do you think dollars would be on the list?

    9. Hi Greg,

      Glad you got a laugh!

Re: con men: yep, you've got a point.

However, I did forget one category (overlapping with the others of course): The Dunning-Kruger poster children. The proudly ignorant. Low-information, know-nothing obnoxious jackasses. The Brendan-Reifler backfire-effect bunch.

Mission to Mars: the could mine for gold once they arrive. Actually, they could make it a reality show. They could name the spaceships in the convoy "Utopia 1," "Utopia 2," etc. 2:1 odds they'd start killing each other before they even arrived on the Red Planet. We could bet on it in Vegas.

    10. ...sorry, that's the Nyhan-Reifler backfire effect bunch (Brendan is Nyhan's 1st name).

  2. ... the past few Days Rubin did a whole series of posts with the topic being "How can evangelicals and people of faith fall for Trump???" ... LOL!!! She seemed genuinely perplexed. Hmmm, let's see:

faith = "I really really REALLY *WANT* it to be true, so it is true!!"

Basically it's full on embracing of the worst possible kind of confirmation bias. And you're wondering how people who have a track record of falling for that can fall under the sway of a conman? REALLY??? Lol

  3. Mike, also your title is off... You've got "Bern" on the mind.
