On the Bernie Maniacs Breastbeating over Correct the Record Ad

Of course they are reacting to this in the way Bernie Maniacs always do: with a great show of self-righteous piety. It must be great to have such a pure candidate as Bernie Sanders as innocent as the day is long.

Here is commentator Stanley Bonk:

That's low. Bernie has been a gentleman about not ragging on Hillary. This isn't going to make them or her look good."

Is it that he's a gentleman or smart like a fox? After all, he can't afford to get into a war of negative ads with her anyway.

So they sign their non-aggression treaty and what's the result?

1. Bernie gets no attacks

2. The Beltway media takes it upon themselves to be her primary opponent and hits her every day on

A. Emails

B. Ceaseless Biden speculations

C. Razzing about Bernie's poll numbers.

So basically he hasn''t taken a shot the whole campaign. If he has to take a single shot is that the end of the world?

Now, don't get me wrong, Correct the Record clearly messed up-they should have only provided this info to Huff Po on the record for one thing.

In any case the actual attack-drawing a comparison of Bernie to Britain's radical Labour' leader Jeremy Corbyn and Hugo Chavez-is probably not one I would have made.

I actually see Corbyn's candidate kind of positively. Yes I know you could argue there are similarities between him and Bernie but I'd argue that the two are different-because of the very different political positions of Labour vs. our Democratic party in America.

Labour is in a very bad way and with the rise of radical SNP party, you could argue that only Corbyn has a prayer of getting the Scots to vote for Labour rather than a party called the Scottish Independence Party.

The Scots main gripe is that they want a more left wing government-rather than a true anti colonial, nationalist movement. So Labour moving Left is not a bad idea. In any case the current Labour government has basically prostrated itself on the floor before the Conservatives.

guies

The difference is that in America, our Center isn't dead-the Democratic party is poised to make some real gains in the next 10 to 20 years.

So there isn't the need for someone to save the party. Then the one big difference is that Corbyn at least has joined Labour while Bernie refuses to join the Democratic party.

On issues he and Hillary agree on many things-despite attempts by the Bernie Maniacs to create huge gulfs between them. On some of the things that do separate them-gun control and immigration, Hillary is to the Left actually.

As for Chavez, CTR kind of chose a bad example as the oil program was something Chavez could play the good guy on  and the program wasn't Bernie's program in particular anyway.

However, I do think Bernie should have to explain what a democratic socialist is. I think it is fair to ask him if he see's Chavez as an example of a democratic socialist.

If he says he's basically just a social democrat in the vein of Western Europe, then that isn't socialism anyway, that's just capitalism with a decent welfare state.

It's not clear why Bernie insists on calling himself a socialist of any stripe: does he want to nationalize a lot of industries and markets? If not then he's not really a socialist and should admit it.

It seems to me that this moniker enables him to have it both ways-to both be a radical outsider and part of the establishment.

Like I said, Bernie has gotten a free pass so I have no problem if any Clinton supporters want to question Bernie's record.

However, in the future hopefully they will be less clumsy than this. Evidently CTR didn't realize that Huff Po is basically Bernie territory and they would rush out to spill the beans immediately to help Bernie.

But the should also make sure the attack is not a shabby one. They should call attention to his less than stellar record on immigration and gun control.
