HIspanic Activists Thank Trump

I've had this argument with a number of people and I've insisted that Trump is a net positive for society. Yes, I know about moments like Thursday night where he got those anti Muslim questions.

But even that's not actually peculiar to Trump-Rick Santorum got similar questions at a rally but the media wasn't nearly as interested. You could argue that this is because of Trump's standing in the polls and how he's dominated the field and just who he is.

These are plausible sounding alibis though I don't believe them. It kind of sounds the same as when the media tries to make the distinction of why Hillary deserves censor for her private emails but not other government official in the country does or why Bill Clinton deserved to be forced out of office for having an extramarital affair with an intern and all his GOP accusers didn't' for the same things and worse-as Larry Flynt would comprehensively document.

The alibis are always just that. Hand waving to defend the current media narrative. So right now the narrative is that Trump is just not Presidential, he doesn't talk about specifics and what his whole anti immigrant shtick has gone too far.

Chris Matthews did everything he could Thursday night to sell the idea that the Republican party might have a few who like this stuff but it's a minority view. Of course, it isn't: 54% of the Republican party thinks Obama is not a citizen.

The reason for this narrative I believe is because the Beltway and the GOP establishment want to bring Trump down and end him.

The reasons for the GOP are obvious. For the press I think it's consternation that he keeps defying what they tell us are the laws of political gravity.

It's kind of mocking their belief in their own importance-which is why they hate the Clintons so much as well.

"And while I don’t have any direct evidence for this, I suspect that to at least some degree reporters share conservatives’ frustration that all the Clinton scandals and mini-scandals and pseudo-scandals haven’t taken them down. In a way it’s an affront to the power of the press. When we splash headline after headline about allegations of misbehavior across our papers, when we devote hour after hour on television to the fact that “questions are being raised,” well that’s supposed to make an impact. It’s supposed to drive the politician in question to the depths of ignominy. It’s not supposed to leave them in exactly the same position as they were when it started."

Something similar is going on with Trump. So the media and GOP insiders are united in running defense for Jeb-while also trying their darnest to destroy Hillary.

Anyway, I'm happy to see that Hispanic activists agree with me-Trump has been a good thing-not because I agree or approve what he's saying: I would hope it would be obvious.

"Hispanic activists have two words for Donald Trump — thank you."

“I think the greatest thing to ever happen to the Hispanic electorate is a gentleman named Donald Trump, he has crystalized the angst and anger of the Hispanic community,” U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Javier Palomarez told POLITICO in an interview. “I think that we can all rest assured that Hispanics can turn out in record numbers.”

"While many activists find his comments downright offensive, they also see an opportunity. Trump has managed to get Latinos engaged with the 2016 race, and activists plan to exploit that to the fullest extent possible."

“He really is just outrageous, he’s built his entire campaign on attacking our community and really playing to the worst element of American society,” said José Calderón, president of the Hispanic Federation, a nonprofit membership organization. “In some ways, he’s helping us out, the base is energized —I think people are really eager to stand up and say this is not who we are and show that through our electoral process.”

"Calderón said in nonelection years, the Federation, which represents 100 community-based organizations across the country and is leading voter outreach efforts, can register about 25,000 Hispanics and on election years it’s about 60,000. But with Trump’s comments driving people to the polls, Calderón believes they can register even more."

If this is so, then my belief may be affirmed that this is actually going to be the start for us to move out of the very negative holding pattern we've seen on immigration the last 15 years.

On the one hand I think Trump may be what leads the Republican party to ultimately split. I think it's very likely that you will see a third party-the party of Trump-develop.

Quite possibly Trump will end up running in it after the GOP successfully denies him the nomination-quite possibly by some questionably legal means.

But even if Trump himself doesn't go third party this time I think a Party of Trump may develop post-election in any case which might start off with him being its titular head. It's not like the GOP has been able to agree with itself in any case as it's now having a game of government chicken with itself over Planned Parenthood.

Add to this a scenario when Latinos start voting more in off year elections and we could finally be moving into a new, more constructive epoch-though I'm careful not to even breath the words Emerging Democratic Majority.
