Concessions are Only Emboldening Bernie Sanders

This week the DNC had made significant and unprecedented concessions to Bernie.

"Sanders has five representatives on the 15-member Platform Drafting Committee, to six for Hillary Clinton, and four for DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, as a result of a compromise announced recently by the DNC. The DNC argues that, by giving 75 percent of the committee’s seats to the campaigns, as opposed to the party, it opens up the process to voters."

Yesterday, there was reason to be optimistic I had thought. After all, Elijah Cummings was someone who Bernie says he trusts-and certainly I and most Dems trust Congressman Cummings. So there seemed to be hope.

But Bernie has no business demanding that Barney Frank and Dan Malloy step down.

"The Sanders campaign sent a formal letter late Friday to Lorraine Miller and James Roosevelt Jr., the co-chairs of the Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee, making a formal credentials challenge to having Frank and Malloy as co-chairmen of two of the three committees."

"Malloy serves as the co-chairman of the Platform Committee and Frank is the co-chairman of the convention's Rules Committee. Both have been unsparing in their criticism of Sanders."

"Governor Malloy and Mr. Frank have both been aggressive attack surrogates for the Clinton campaign. Their criticisms of Senator Sanders have gone beyond dispassionate ideological disagreement and have exposed a deeper professional, political and personal hostility toward the Senator and his Campaign," the Sanders letter to Roosevelt and Miller reads.

The Vermont senator has argued before that Malloy and Frank, both Clinton supporters, have unfairly and aggressively attacked his candidacy. The Sanders campaign offered some examples in the complaint.

"In a March interview, Mr. Frank defamed Senator Sanders as “outrageously McCarthyite," the letter said. For Malloy, the campaign pointed out that the Connecticut governor is an "avowed loyalist of the Clinton Campaign, he is an incendiary critic of Senator Sanders. While justly criticizing 'Donald Trump and his extremist agenda' in press remarks, Governor Malloy has gone on to draw pejorative comparisons between Mr. Trump and Senator Sanders.”

So basically no one who has every criticized Bernie Sanders can be on the panel. Yet, Bernie has Cornell West on it who has called Obama the 'black mascot of Wall St.' and has called Hillary terrible things.

If no one who has criticized Bernie can be on it then neither can anyone who criticized Hillary.

This might show the danger of giving away the store to someone who has lost the nomination in a landslide.

I would urge all Democrats to call the DNC at (202) 863-8000 and tell the DNC not to make any more wild concessions to the Bern. It only emboldens him.

Certainly Dan Malloy and Barney Frank go nowhere. Bernie needs to learn he doesn't hold the cards he wants to believe.
