Donald Trump Attacks 'Mexican Judge' in Trump U Lawsuit

And yet some say he's not Presidential:

"Over the course of 12 minutes, Donald Trump used a campaign rally in San Diego on Friday night to lace into the judge overseeing a lawsuit over Trump University, calling him a “hater” and speculating about his ethnicity."

“The trial is going to take place sometime in November. There should be no trial. This should have been dismissed on summary judgment easily,” Trump said. “Everybody says it, but I have a judge who is a hater of Donald Trump, a hater. He’s a hater. His name is Gonzalo Curiel.”

It's ironic that Trump suggests that the judge is biased as he already allowed the lawsuit to be postponed until after the election.

Which is a tough blow the the people who were ripped off by Trump U after all. I mean, if Trump wins do you really think they have a chance at prevailing then?
"Several lawsuits — two in federal court in San Diego and one in state court in New York — allege that Trump’s now-defunct real estate school, Trump University, made false claims about instructors’ experience. Trump has already acknowledged in a deposition that he did not hand-pick the teachers, as marketing materials claimed, though he insists the program was valuable."

"They actually did a very good job, but I've won most of the lawsuits," he said during a GOP debate in February.

Since then, Trump has repeatedly attacked Curiel and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, claiming the former is "Spanish" and the latter is out to get him for electoral gain.

"At Friday night's rally, he got more specific, telling the crowd he believes Curiel — who was born in the United States — is Mexican."

“The judge, who happens to be, we believe, Mexican, which is great, I think that’s fine,” Trump said, according to the LA Times. “You know what? I think the Mexicans are going to end up loving Donald Trump when I give all these jobs, OK?”

None dare call it fascism.

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin-of all people-tells us it's not stupid to vote for Donald Trump.

"Sarah Palin made a surprise appearance at a Donald Trump rally in San Diego on Friday, telling Trump supporters that members of the political establishment "want you all to feel stupid."

“Stupid is some people are actually going to vote for the crooked one,” Palin said, referring to the "Crooked Hillary" nickname that Trump has given Hillary Clinton.

Sure. The crooked one who has released 33 years of her tax returns as opposed to the candidate who is refusing to release his tax returns and has been audited every year since the 80s?

Who uses the audit as an excuse even though it didn't stop Richard Nixon? Another words a candidate less transparent than Nixon?

No irony that Sarah Palin is the one to assure us it's not stupid to vote for Donald Trump.

  1. RedState also did a piece on this:

In particular Susan Wright, who did the one on his CA drought comments too.

  2. I have to say though, it is a stupid move for the protesters to wave Mexican flags:

  3. Yes. I don't get that either. It's like the protesters in the 60s chanting for the Vietcong.

Of course these are not mostly Hillary folks. My guess is that few Hilary supporters would do stuff like this.

    Maybe some Bernie supporters.

    1. Yes, I'm sure there's a whole spectrum of people out there protesting. Some are just hoodlums looking for a fight. Some are probably radicals that want to see California returned to Mexico (I expect this to be a very small contingent). Some are just stupid. Mexican flags in general are a pretty common sight inside Mexican restaurants (which are numerous, especially in my city, but probably much more so in San Diego -- so perhaps they just grab one from the wall of some restaurant and head out to protest). (BTW I'm missing Bernie's speech right now at our city college)

    2. I don't think waving a Mexican flag hurts you too much with California politics, but it's a disaster for a national image.

Every summer we have "Old Spanish Days" that goes on a whole week in Santa Barbara, which is nothing but (old style) Spanish, Mexican and American flags, Mexican food, Spanish/Mexican dancing at the courthouse, etc. It doesn't phase people here a bit to see a Mexican flag... but to bring it to your anti-Trump rally is not thinking things through. They fly a huge old style Spanish flag on our courthouse the whole week, under the main arch, and all up and down State Street (the main street). Here's what I mean.

    3. ... and to add to the spectrum of people: most are responsible people who want nothing to do with violence and who are not stupid (do not bring Mexican flags with them).

But Trump's tribalism induces a counter-Tribalism I think. It's unavoidable. So in a sense, it works to Trump's advantage, given that it becomes a national news story.

I have to say though, I was disappointed in MSNBC yesterday. I tune in to hear interviews and opinions with various interesting people. The fact that a protest is currently happening is of little interest to me. If they want to spend 30 seconds on it, fine. I don't need to see 15 minutes of coverage looking at a crowd of people yelling at each other, interrupting their normal broadcast. Even though I can fast forward it still means your normal broadcast is reduced to almost nothing.

    4. Rachel did more of what you want. She of course said 'There are protesters yelling at each other in San Diego' but didn't simply film the whole thing.

Chris Hayes did that and though I didn't watch him last night maybe Chris Matthews did too.

    5. Yeah, I watched Mathews and Hayes. Mathews was especially bad. His last three guests hardly had a chance to speak.

There were technical difficulties with his usual Trump correspondent, but they had two back up correspondents! Shoot.

    6. One funny thing, Matthews let slip the word "Americans" when describing the pro-Trump protesters. Ann Coulter was one guest and she jumped on that, agreeing they were the Americans vs the un-Americans. Chris spent the rest of the broadcast apologizing for that slip. I was just rolling my eyes...

    7. That segment ended with Ann and another woman talking over each other. He just had to cut them off.

And while I thought he went overboard on his apologizing, on one other point I couldn't believe how dense he was. That woman arguing with Ann at the end pointed out to chris that net immigration from Mexico is near zero and that the Obama administration has been very aggressive in deportations... Much more so than Bush... But Chris kept saying "yeah, I've heard that before, but who on the liberal side is saying they're going to do something about it? What are the proposals on the left?" ... The guest was rightfully dumbfounded by that statement. Let's see, Obama is aggressively enforcing the law and objectively immigration is now zero. Wtf is the problem? She already answered you Chris. I've noticed recently that he sometimes doesn't seem to understand what people are saying to him. Not all the time, but maybe once per broadcast he either hears something that wasn't there, or fails to hear a direct response. Old age maybe? Lol

    8. Yes, I've seen him do that before. I think it's more he was trying to argue 'both sides do it.'

I will say this for him. He more than any other debate or town meeting moderator really did a bang up job in his questions to Trump.

For once Trump didn't have the upper hand with the interviewer.

Matthews got him on a number of things-one thing of course was suckering Trump into saying that there will be punishments for women who have abortions.

The Hillary team should definitely pore over that interview with a fine, tooth, comb.

Matthews really got him on a lot of things by they way he'd phrase questions.

He actually managed to throw Trump off balance and confuse him into saying the wrong thing.

    9. BTW, I watched most of a documentary on Netflix last night called "cartel land" ... It jumped back and forth between a group of yahoo's in Arizona who liked to run around in the desert playing army man with their assault weapons and their desert camos... Taking it upon themselves to go looking for trouble on the border; And a group of Mexican "auto defense" vigilantes who did the same thing but with what appeared to be about 10000% greater justification (to protect their communities from the cartels in the face of corrupt or missing government forces). The Mexican autodefense forces were led by a medical doctor while the American vigilantes had an unemployed recovering drug addict as their leader. I couldn't bear to finish watching as I was afraid of something tragic happening to the Mexican doctor or his family.

So I watched a very very odd German comedy instead called "look who's back." The premise is that Hitler wakes up on the ground in 2014 over where his bunker used to be. They don't attempt to explain how. He's discovered by an unemployed film maker who thinks he's an edgy comedian/character actor. Hitler ends up being a huge ratings boost to TV shows that have him on as a guest. I won't ruin it for you in case you ever see it... But by the time the credits are rolling it's clear it's meant to be a commentary on extreme right wing politics in Europe. Too bad it wasn't made this year... They could have inserted a few clips of Trump. I think you would have approved! Lol

There is one scene that's done as a parody of the most famous and most parodied scene from the movie "downfall" ... Which I'm almost positive you'd be familiar with. The one in which a bunker bound Hitler is told some bad news and flies into a rage. There are probably 1000 or more versions of it on YouTube with different subtitles swapped in.

But back to "look who's back"... Not the greatest movie, yet I watched it all the way through. It had an element of Borat to it which made me wonder if some of the scenes were real reactions of modern day Germans to seeing Hitler walking around in public. So I cautiously recommend it for that reason alone.

    10. Actually your discussion of Chris Matthews inspired me to write a post about that time he did the Trump Town Hall.

Matthews may have had a bad night Friday, but he was on fire at that Town Hall and really set some great traps for Trump.

  4. I do honestly think that few actual Hillary supporters go to these. Like you said it's basically more of competing tribalisms.

I would think that Bernie supporters in general would be a little more predisposed to Hillary supporters to do it.

By no means are all of them Bernie supporters either.
