Nick Gass actually claims that last night's split results 'adds to her headaches.'
"Clinton claims Kentucky victory, Sanders wins Oregon."
"The split result adds to Clinton's headaches, as she struggles to focus her fire on Trump."

This doesn't even pass the laugh test. Last night actually added to Bernie Sander's 'headaches.' The headache being that he is a dead man walking.

When you look at the absurd temper tantrums of the Berners in Nevada over the weekend this is due to the lack of reality Bernie is encouraging them to labor under.

The media seems to want to play along with the lie that anything remains at stake in this Dem primary.
In fact, as Rachel Maddow said last night, going into it Hillary was 92 percent of the way to the nomination, while Trump was 90% to his nomination. Now with last night's results Hilary is now 96 percent of the way there.
As for the idea that the GOP has unified behind Trump before the Dems have unified around Hillary this is also false. The difference is that the Dems have a proportional system. If it weren't for that Hillary would already be at about 2600 delegates.
Yet the media insists on perpetuating this fiction:
"Clinton claims Kentucky victory, Sanders wins Oregon."
"The split result adds to Clinton's headaches, as she struggles to focus her fire on Trump."

"In a razor-thin victory, Clinton won the Kentucky primary. But she was handily beaten in Oregon and just can’t shake Bernie Sanders.

Amazing spin. In truth this race has been over since March 15 and with her big wins in New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland in late April, even the illusion that this was still a race were over.
Actually what stood out in Oregon was how feeble Bernie's margin actually was. It may end up being under 10 points. This is a state he should have won by 40 points based on demographics. Again, the media is breathlessly focusing on 'wins' and 'momentum' which are wholly meaningless at this point.
As far as this damaging Hillary, I think this is also overdone. It's true that you'd rather not have to fight a two front war. But honestly the Bernie front is still a war only in his own deluded mind.
She has been increasingly ignoring him. The two front war was present in 2008 as well. McCain actually wrapped things up in March and Hillary and Obama continued to slog it till June.
Did this help McCain? No. The trouble is, again, that the Democratic proportional system means that the Dem race will usually drag out long after the GOP race is officially over.
What it does is give the challenger the illusion that they still have a path.
But be of good cheer, Hillary lovers. The primary is over and Bernie and the Berners can't hurt her: they just hurt Bernie's reputation.
As Krugman says, it's fitting that a campaign that has run on such a fantasy platform, they also use fantasy delegate math.

You know, just like Stalin believed in bourgeoisie math and proletarian science, Bernie only uses proletarian math.
Thanks. I feel better. I've been very angry lately.
ReplyDeleteWith the Beltway's lies about the state of the race, I don't blame you. Glad I could make you feel better
ReplyDeleteO/T: but about your title. They block off 10 blocks of the main street downtown to do a car show here once a year (~300 cars)... the 1st entry made me laugh: a red 1965 Chevy van decorated in the Mexican Day of the Dead style (plenty of skulls, and similar imagery), no windows in the back, and a little bed made up inside. The kind of van you'd never want your daughter to get inside of. In the passenger's side window was a little sign:
ReplyDelete"Ass, gas or grass"
"No one rides for free!"
And now that I think about it (contemplating your title), that could backfire (excuse the pun)!
