Mitch McConnell's continued insistence in not considering the Judge, refusing to even giving him a hearing is just ironic on a number of levels.
Obviously they still want to replace Scalia's seat with another Scalia. But don't they see this is more and more unlikely, with Trump being the nominee?
1. Trump's chances of winning the White House are not so good-the market gives him a 24 percent chance.

2. Even if he did win, can the GOPers really trust that he will nominate a reliable conservative? It wouldn't shock me to see him nominate Clint Eastwood.
Beyond that, to have any say in the future Supreme Court the GOP needs to hold onto the Senate. Yet, there obstruction on Merrick Garland is seriously hurting them in the Senate races.
"COULD COURT BATTLE PUT GOP MAJORITY AT RISK? Note this tidbit from the new Quinnipiac poll about Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey race and Merrick Garland:
"Pennsylvania voters approve 52-29 percent of Judge Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court and say 58-37 percent that the Senate should consider the nomination….Because Toomey wants to wait for the next president to make a Supreme Court nomination, 30 percent of voters are less likely to vote for him, while 18 percent are more likely to support him and 51 percent say this will not affect their vote."
"If more polling like this comes back to these Senators, it’s possible they may ask Mitch McConnell to relent. Of course, that would make the base very, very angry, so he very well may not: Hence the trap this creates for Republicans."

It would make you think that McConnell might be smart to at least allow him a hearing. Don't simply do nothing. If he could argue that they are at least going to give him a chance to make his case-even if they don't confirm him, that would be something.

As for the base, even Red State America now says they might as well confirm McGarland. Limit their losses-as Hillary can then replace him with someone more liberal, and just as importantly, younger.
It really just shows that the GOP has learnt nothing over the last 7 and a half years.
