A Jeb Bush Democrat Gets Some Good News in Florida

Yep, that's me. I'm a Jeb Bush Democrat. Now, that the goal is Anyone but Marco Rubio.

A new Florida poll shows that while in early December Rubio was at 17 percent and Jeb at just 9 percent, now Rubio is down to 12 percent with Jeb suddenly at 13 percent.

Eureka! Of course, Trump leads this new poll at 31 percent with Cruz at 19 percent.

Clearly Jeb has shaved his added points from Rubio.  Recently, some Establishment GOPers were after Jeb to not hit Rubio so hard with the ads. After all, they reason, Jeb has no hope in winning for himself and could do the Establishment a favor by getting out.

But Jeb is not taking the bait. He responded by the very next day doubling down and mocking Rubio for being short. Then he got a significant shot in the arm in South Carolina with an endorsement from Lindsay Graham.

What this could do is help push the Establishment vote in SC from Rubio and to Jeb. Which is perfect. Meanwhile, George Will wrote a piece that made the NH Union Leader-which endorsed Chris Christie-that attacked Rubio on a number of issues.

Indeed, it turns out that Will is getting behind Christie.

Yes, Will, by all means let's keep an eye on Chris Christie and may he finish first among the Establishment in NH as well.

The Establishment Derby in the GOP keeps getting better. I wonder why a critical book of Christie-and Bridgegate-just happens to be surfacing now.

Yes, Christie's Bridge to Redemption indeed. But, seriously, I'd be all for him finishing first among the Establishment in NH and then maybe Jeb can take SC and/or Florida-among the Establishment.

Anyone but Marco Rubio.

  1. You say you're a Jeb Bush Democrat, but where's your Jeb! T-shirt to prove it? Lol. If you owned such a thing, would you wear it in public? To the gym?

O/T: As Sumner has delved into issues of class and race, he's fired up a wackier that usual sounding comments section. Led by (you guessed it) E. Harding. But Nick Rowe (who makes one qualified positive Trump comment) and Noah Smith make appearances as well.

Here's something Harding brought up that I didn't realize: the issue (on the 'far right' as he puts it) of "Human bio-diversity" (HBD).

Apparently that's trending now in intellectual bigot circles. HBD! It's hot! It's all the rage! HBD is for bigots what "intelligent design" was/is for creationists.

    1. Harding kept us all appraised of by the minute emails he was receiving from Noah... eventually gleefully revoking his commenting rights on Noah's blog altogether (after earlier giving him a reprieve from a previous ban). Funny!

Also Warstler gets into it. And Harding folds in the dreaded "Jews." Hahaha... Poor old MF must feel even more sidelined now.

  2. I would not wear a Jeb Bush t-shirt. Even I have more pride than that!

Thanks for the skinny on this debate which sounds interesting though I'm not able to wrap my mind around it right now i'm so focused on politics. LOL,

I got to catch up with econ.

I'm relieved to see the market up today. Wouldn't it be all the luck to see the the economy tank and then get a President Ted Cruz or Trump?

Though my new belief is that Bernie is the Ted Cruz of the Left

    1. I overhead our company's president today (who's pretty right wing, but generally keeps his politics to himself) giving his assessment of the political situation to another coworker:

"Bernie's a communist, Hillary is a socialist and then on the other side [Trump/Cruz?] we basically have McCarthy"

So, it sounds like he's pretty disgusted. Hopefully he'll stay home.
