He is still far short of where we need the next Democratic Presidential nominee to be on gun control but Bernie did vow to reform a vote he took in 2005.
After weeks of fighting with Hillary Clinton’s campaign over his gun control record, Bernie Sanders on Saturday night said he backs new legislation that amends a controversial 2005 law on which he voted to limit liability on gun manufacturers.
That vote has been at the center of substantial sniping from Clinton allies, and the former secretary of state has been using it as an example of Sanders being out of step with the party on gun control.

Good on Bernie for that. Of course note what he is and isn't doing. This isn't his bill-he's just praising a bill other-real-Democrats are proposing.
"I’m pleased that this legislation is being introduced,” said Sanders of legislation from Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Adam Schiff. “As I have said for many months now, we need to look at the underlying law and tighten it up."
"Still, Sanders will not be co-sponsoring the legislation, said his communications director, Michael Briggs."
"Cheering the legislation’s move to leave in place child safety locks and ban armor-piercing ammunition, Sanders also warned that he still wanted to protect smaller gun stores."
“I do want to make sure that this legislation does not negatively impact small gun stores in rural America that serve the hunting community. So I’m pleased to support the legislation and should it come up for consideration I would work to make sure it includes a provision that allows us to monitor is impact so that we may determine if it is having any unintended consequences."

So think about it. It's not his legislation and he's been saying all along he might consider it. It doesn't undo all the damage of that bill by a long shot. I mean shielding all manufacturers of guns form law suits?
And he still sounds like a GOPer worrying about small gun dealers.
As I've documented Bernie's weakness on gun control extends throughout his entire career.
"Bernie has a terrible record on guns-it is not one vote, or two voters, or even three votes. His weakness on gun control spans his entire career. He was elected in 1990 in part because the NRA at the time found him a more acceptable choice than his incumbent Republican opponent who had supported an assault weapons ban. "

There are all kinds of bad votes he has taken that aren't being reversed now. He voted four times against the Brady Bill, he voted against waiting periods-which was the problem in the Charleston shooting in the black church, he voted with George W. Bush in 2007 to make it harder for the FBI to keep track of unscrupulous gun dealers.
To this day, every time we have yet another mass shooting Bernie again sounds like a Republican by saying 'It's time to stop the shooting' and focusing more on mental health.
