Why Hillary Embraced Obama Last Night

Because the point has to be made that she represents continuing, consolidating, and improving on his agenda. She was an integral part of his White House for four years, and is his chosen successor now.

Morning Joe and other Hilary hating pundits seem not to get it. Joe was whining about how Hillary criticized him in 2007. Well sure. That's what happens when you are primary opponents. It's sort of part of the job.

Nevertheless, the President and Hillary are in this together. Their two legacies are intertwined. Which is sort of fitting. We can see this election as sort of overtime for the Obama years. A Hilary win validates the Obama years and puts them on a much surer footing.

A Bernie victory-even in the very unlikely chance that he could win in the general-would be a repudiation of the Obama years.

It would basically be blowing up the Obama years and starting over from scratch. That's how Bernie's healthcare plan is being described:

"Bernie Sanders on Sunday released his plan to reform the American health insurance system -- or, more accurately, to reinvent it from scratch."

This more or less applies to the whole Bernie agenda.

But the fact that Obama is loved by Democrats shows why Bernie can't win. Democrats want to preserve and build on his legacy, not blow it up and reinvent from scratch.

P.S. If you look at this history, Obama and Hillary have always been in this together in some way. He had liked her the first time he met her back in 2004. It was not at all out of character for him to select her as his Secretary of State.

What's interesting about the two is how much they actually have in common. Both ideologically, they are both pragmatic liberal incrementalists.

But personally too. When Obama first started out as a Presidential candidate, he was spoken of as a rare thing''A black man who is totally comfortable around white people.'

That always made me laugh. Why is that a shock? His mother was white. Indeed, his mother was very similar to Hillary's own mom who she has opened up a lot more on recently. Hillary talks of how her mom taught her that you will get knocked down but you always have to get back up again.

But Obama's mom was very similar-they were both white American women with strongly held mid-western values. So Hillary and Obama always had a lot more in common than was appreciated.
