Why Trump Has a Better Chance Than Bernie

Wow! I sure kicked the hornets' nest with my last post on Bernie vs. Trump. I got infested on Twitter with a bunch of rabid Bernie supporters lead by Elizabeth Bruenig of the New Republic. It's hard to believe this is a grown woman who has such a high role at the NR. Maybe this is why the NR is said by many to be in such trouble.

http://lastmenandovermen.blogspot.com/2016/01/thinking-unthinkable-what-if-it-is.html

I really outraged the Bernie supporters on Twitter by:

1. Suggesting that if it's Bernie vs. Trump I might just have to go Trump.

2. I think they also were peeved that I argued that I'm not at all sure Bernie can beat Trump.

Lately Bernie and friends have been arguing that Bernie is actually more electable than Hillary Clinton based on some general election polls that show him beating Trump by a larger margin than Hillary.

Sure, but such general election polls are totally meaningless right now. For a whole host of reasons, as Nate Silver explains.

And anyway, no one has really been attacking Bernie until the last week when Hillary has taken her gloves off a little. Bernie Maniacs have accused her of being 'dirty' just for questioning St. Bernie on anything so gauche as policy details.

Look at the man. He is clearly so morally superior to her and the rest of us that we just should take what he says on pure faith.

And if Bernie were to make the general believe me, criticizing his refusal to release his tax and health care plans would be the kindest thing he could hope to hear running against the GOP.

The Bernie Maniacs who are happy to go after Hillary on things like Whitewater, Emailgate, and Bill's sex life, might reconsider what they consider 'fair game' if it's a race between The Bern and The Donald.

My guess is that the kindest thing Bernie would hear against Trump would be what he calls him now: Crazy Bernie.

My name for Bernie would be The Angry Prophet. Bernie admires the Pope and he reminds me of a certain Pope as well: Pope Pious.

Last nigth even an empty suit like Kasich was making fun of Bernie.

"The candidates in Thursday night's GOP debate offered plenty of warnings about what will happen to the country if former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gets elected president, but they seemed considerably less worried about going up against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). "

"We're going to win every state if Bernie Sanders is the nominee," Ohio Gov. John Kasich said to laughter from the audience. "That's not even an issue. And I know Bernie. And I can promise you he won't be president of the United States."

But of course the Bernie Maniacs don't care about elections just who is the most pious.
Anyway, as you can tell from the title, I'm doubling down on my trolling of Bernie's cultists. Read it and weep Bernie fans. I wonder if Ms. Brueing will start chanting 'Kill, kill, kill the poor, kill, kill, kill the poor!'

Yes, this is a writer at the New Republic. And Ryan Cooper was so pleased with this logical reasoning that he favorited her rants. Right, Ryan. Clearly you are concerned with health care policy.

Why is Hillary more electable? For a whole host of reasons. But for one thing, she has steely-eyed toughness that Pious Bernie totally lacks.

Think about it. This week Bernie Maniacs are besides themselves about how dirty Hillary is for simply asking Bernie to do more than tell us he is going to reduce income inequality but actually show us how he gets this done.

For some reason he is either unable or unwilling to do this.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/01/12/the-big-mystery-around-bernie-sanders-plan-to-reduce-income-inequality/

Bernie thinks that simply asking him for details on his health care plan is a Karl Rove tactic? How can someone this hypersensitive to criticism deal with Donald Trump?

Many Bernie fans have actually gloated seeing Trump attacking Hillary on the basis of her husbands infidelities that she herself was victim of.

But Hillary can handle this. The clueless Beltway pundits have suggested that she'd be in trouble against Trump in the general but she's been here many times before. Hillary has dealt with real Karl Rove tactics for 25 years and not one drop of mud that has been thrown her way has stuck.

It's clearly different with Bernie. Indeed, a young former Bernie Maniac explains what disillusioned him-mostly the Maniacs themselves.

"As time went on, the vitriol spewed by those on reddit and other sites towards anyone who didn’t support Bernie grew worse. It was inconceivable to them that someone with all the information on both candidates would still support Hillary. I began feeling like the Bernie Sanders campaign had left me behind. Anything that didn’t totally preach the gospel of Bernie, that was perhaps not entirely positive, that perhaps treated him like a person running for president instead of the person ordained by God to save America, was decried, the people behind it vilified."

Let's be clear: in a Trump-Bernie matchup Trump won't spend any time canonizing Bernie's moral superiority.

He'll do much worse than question his tax and fiscal budgets or his health care plan or his history on gun control that Bernie Maniacs are convinced is so Rovian.

You know what Trump will say about Bernie? Maybe it's cute when Trump attacks Hilary's family but what about when he goes after Bernie? I'm sure Jane Sanders is a very fine woman but there are even rumors out about her.

Which is not that I think any of them are true just that this won't stop Trump.

Then there are the previous votes Bernie took that led him as being sympathetic to child molesters. I agree that stuff is way beyond the pale but do you think that's going to stop Trump?

My point is not that I think these are legitimate tactics but they are Trump's and if you think he'll only use them against Hillary you are fooling yourself.

Hillary has been through this and will be non-plussed. After seeing her Benghazi testimony is there anything that can intimidate her? But Bernie is clearly not ready to deal with that as he doesn't have her history of punching back and winning and believes that even honest policy discussions are somehow Rovian.

Basically, if you don't want a President Trump then Bernie is not the man for the job. This time the man for the job is a woman.
