Woah! The gloves are coming off. Trump must not take kindly to Dr. Ben saying his immigration plan is not pragmatic.
http://lastmenandovermen.blogspot.com/2015/11/ben-carson-attacks-trump-from-left-on.html
Trump counterpunches by simply discussing Dr. Ben's 'interesting' biography.
"Trump mocked
Carson's claim that when he tried to stab a relative, the knife hit the person's belt buckle and broke."
"Give me a break. Give me a break. Give me a break," Trump said on Thursday after recounting Carson's story.
"Trump them moved beside the podium and used his own belt to demonstrate how easily a belt buckle moves, questioning Carson's statement that the buckle stopped the knife. Trump noted that in Carson's case, "amazingly, the belt stayed totally flat."
"How stupid are the people of Iowa — how stupid are the people of the country to believe this crap?" Trump asked.
The real estate mogul also echoed comments he made during an
interview on CNN, comparing Carson's history of violence to child molestation.
"If you're a child molester, a sick puppy, a child molester, there's no cure for that — there's only one cure and we don't want to talk about that cure, that's the ultimate cure. No there's two, there's death and the other thing. But if you're a child molester, there's no cure, they can't stop you. Pathological, there's no cure," Trump said at the Iowa rally."

So now the gloves are really coming off. I argued that Dr. Ben was taking a real chance attacking Trump from the Left on immigration.
As much as Dr. Ben's supporters like him, Trump going after him this hard also seems to me to be a high risk strategy. But you know what they say-high risk, high reward.
Oh, well. We'll see if either gets any movement in the polls from all this, but the way I figure it is whoever wins this liberal Democrats can't lose.
Now I would be panicking-if I were a GOPer.

Trump should go after Ted Cruz next, because he's clearly hiding the fact that he's pro-Amnesty:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2015/11/12/cruz-is-trapped-on-immigration/
I'd love to see Trump mock Cruz for his evasive answers on this. Trump can claw his way back to the top by exposing pro-Amnesty rivals.
Really, he should challenge Cruz's biggest fans (talk radio types)... call them out by name:
DeleteMark Levin: Why don't you ask Ted about deporting the 11 million?
Laura Ingraham, what about you? Common! Sean Hannity? Surely someone will try to pin this guy down! Let's unmask pro-Amnesty RINOs trying to pretend they're something else!
Etc, that would be hilarious!
I think Jennifer is right: What's Ted going to do? Where's he going to run... Trump could make his favorite shows a little less comfortable for him to visit.
I'd love to see Cruz and Trump get into it... it would be the most entertaining thing I could imagine. By default Trump has Coulter and Ingraham and Breitbart on his side... and probably Levin too. I'd love to see him crush Ted like a grape.
I could see Trump suggesting (like Bill Maher did) that Cruz is probably wearing a bra and panties under his suit... just flash this photo up on the screen:

Trump, of all the candidates, would go there.

Deletehttp://media.fyre.co/6zTxv6nTQaoHiae7wir4_ted_cruz_pink_sheriff.jpg
DeleteTrump could claim (with a straight face) that that pic was from Ted's facebook page. He just states it, then it's true.
Tom welcome back! You left me all this vivid imagery of California and the trees and flowers-I appreciated it though didn't really know what to say in response! For once I was speechless. LOL.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear from you.
But I must protest a little. Why do you want him to go after Cruz? See this is not my way of thinking at all. I want him to go after Rubio.
But you seem to not want to see Rubio roughed up. He's the real threat for the Dems so we want to see him buried in the primary.
I'm rooting for Cruz over Rubio. I'd much rather see Cruz beat Rubio.
As for Trump it was a great rant. We'll see ho it plays out though. I'd say it's highly risky of him as Carson has very high favorables with the base.
But maybe it will work. But I think Ben is also risking a lot by going squishy on immigration.
No, he should go after Rubio too... but that's too easy. That's not entertaining. Going after Cruz would be entertaining!
DeleteI think Ben going squishy lefty on immigration is just more proof that he is totally clueless. It should be like a lamb in a tank of hungry piranhas for Ben.... everybody should be hitting him hard for this.
Trump should attack EVERYONE on immigration, because he's unique in wanting to deport 11 or 12 million people. He should tear into everyone. Tear into all of them. He'll carry the right wing media with him. Even Michelle Malkin seems to be warming up to Trump on this. He's WAYYYYY ahead of the rest on this issue. He should go into overdrive on this, because nobody else can touch him.
If they do follow him there, then they're toast too (in the general).
More good bits here:
Deletehttps://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2015/11/13/donald-trump-begs-iowans-not-to-believe-ben-carson-dont-be-fools-okay/
Trump should call Cruz and Rubio "typical Mexicans"... purposely confuse the fact that they're Cubans.... say "I can't tell, they all look the same to me"... the base would LOVE that, don't you think?... then he should say something (after acknowledging that they're Cubans), about our immigration laws being especially lax for Cubans... that "all a Cuban has to do is set foot on our soil and he's in" ... "Why don't we ever hear about that from the Cubano brothers???" He should call them "brothers" ... that would be hilarious.. or maybe "hermanos"
Well that's what he should do after Florida anyway... if those two are still competing with him then. Probably a little risky pre-Florida.
To me what's entertaining is what helps the Dems. Rubio being attacked is entertaining.
DeleteAttacking Cruz could be counterproductive as it could help Rubio.
I'm just finishing a post now about how Peggy Noonan is begging Jeb not to put Rubio attack ads.
I want to see Rubio attacked too... by Jeb! by Trump by anybody.
DeleteI want to see Trump get the nomination too... he's a clear loser in the general. I want to see everyone else a clear loser in the primary.
A Trump primary victory, obtained though being more to the right than anyone else on immigration, is going to pay dividends for more than just this one election.
If Cruz wins, he may not win the general (he has a better chance than Trump!), but if he sticks in the squishy middle on immigration during the primary and then tacks hard left in the general (which he's smart enough to do), then he improves his chances, and he doesn't damage the party as long term as would Trump.
Now, if Cruz feels the pressure, and decides to go full Donald, then he becomes just as damaging to the GOP as Donald would be.
But he's not there yet. He needs to feel some heat to make up his mind. That's why I'd like to see Trump apply the screws... and to push the right wing media to apply the screws too.
Trump should ask to see Cruz's birth certificate! Lol. Rubio too!
DeleteYou know-high risk, maybe high reward. But also a higher chance of backfiring too for both Ben and Trump here.
ReplyDeleteBy the way he's not unique in wanting to deport 11 million though what is unique his his saying this out loud. This is an idea that's been in GOP circles for awhile.
ReplyDeleteIt's Trump's marker basically-this way no one can attack him from the Right on immigration. In 2012 he was saying that Romney was crazy for calling for self-deportation. LOL.
Trump's service is that immigration is the issue the GOP didn't want a debate on. Romney said self-deport in 2012 but there wasn't that much discussion on it
Thanks to Trump this has been the most important issue this time in the primary.
I don't believe any other politicians want to deport 11 million. Why? The donor class doesn't want that, so why push it?
DeleteThe base voter may want that (and they clearly do), but not the donor class, and not the strategists.
Self deportation was Romney trying to sound tough. I don't think for a minute he would have implemented such a plan.
Well how do you know when someone is just talking tough and when the mean it. You assume Trump means it but no one else does.
DeleteBut you are mistaken that no one but Trump has said deport the 11 million.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/11/10/1448326/-Federal-judge-adopts-the-Trump-Carson-idea-that-the-14th-Amendment-doesn-t-guarantee-citizenship
There is a sizable GOP history in trying to 'reinterpret' the 14th Amendment as not guaranteeing citizenship.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/a-good-chunk-of-gop-field-wants-to-repeal-the-14th-amendment_55d24915e4b055a6dab12015
This article makes clear that Trump is not the only one. Lindsay Graham basically agrees despite all his criticism of Trump.
Even Jeb by talking about 'anchor babies' bought into the central conceit of Trump's arguments: that there is an epidemic of people who sneak over the borders just to have babies.
That's what Trump's whole ending birthright citizenship position-ie, deporting 11 million-is about.
I do want to argue for not trying to see all this daylight between the GOPers. The real difference is merely tactical.
Most prefer to hide how anti immigration GOP policies really are rather than highlight them like Trump has.
I'm glad he has. Now we can have clarify. To me the one's who hide it a little like Rubio are more dangerous as maybe some will think-ok, he's not so bad, he did support Gang of Eight and only changed to please the base.
With an issue this serious no way is that a risk that I want to take.
As a matter of fact I wish I had the money for my own super PAC. I'd be hitting Rubio all day.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'd even put out a piece that talks about his amnesty-in GOP areas, while putting up him saying let's deport the Dreamers on Latino tv.
My theory of the race: whatever hurts Rubio is good.
My theory of the race is that Trump and his deportation squads will be uniquely damaging to the GOP for decades to come.
DeleteWny not flush the rest of the candidates out and force them to take a stand on "Amnesty" ... the sooner the better.
If anybody else wants to join Trump in maximal damage land, fine, but I don't want there to be any room for any of them to run back to the center in a general.
Make them sign a Grover Norquist style commitment to deport at least 11 million now.
The ones who would try this are Rubio, Jeb-also Kasich and Christie, though these phonies, are finished.
DeleteNo way would Ted Cruz try to do this
This is why I think that even in terms of honesty a Trump-Hillary or Cruz-Hillary contest is more honest.
The establishment types will just lie but have the same policies.
Like I've explained, recently-I believe there are just four who have a shot at nomination-Rubio, Cruz, Carson, and Trump.
ReplyDeleteMy main priority is that it not be Rubio. On Jeb, I'm actually kind of rooting for him again as I detail in my new post.
Even if he does down hopefully he goes down with a bang and smears Rubio the way his super PAC wants to.
See Tom, we've talked about your fear regarding the reality Quotient, etc. My fear is that someone like Rubio will be successful with his totally policy free biography campaign.
ReplyDeleteSome in the mush middle might think he sounds reasonable-even though he isn't.
This is how W snowed people as well. By talking 'compassionate' and about being a different kind of conservative.
Ted Cruz will lose on Goldwater like numbers but Rubio at least theoretically could be a problem as he's very slick and turns everything into an infomercial about how he's young. Latino, and the poor boy of legal immigrants.
I think HRC can beat him but it could be a tougher campaign. Cruz would be a landslide.
ReplyDeleteAs I wrote about recently, this is Nate Silver's theory of the race too. It would normally be a tossup-but if a Trump, Carson, or Cruz wins it's more like a 75% chance of a Hillary win.
