There is an awful lot of breastbeating out of the Chuck Todds and the Andrea Mitchells of the world-to say nothing of Joe Scarborough.
They think the President should be bellicose like W was. Somehow they think that it was mortally wrong that the President criticized the GOP Governors, Presidential candidates, and Congressmen who are engaging in such miserable Islamophobia.

Morning Joe, tried to have it both ways. Yes, what the GOP Governors and such are doing is wrong and even shameful, but the President is shameful to say so on foreign soil.
He shouldn''t criticize domestic critics on foreign soil, but he must instead rise above it-even as they fall over themselves in who can take the lowest road.
Now Obama was asked about this the press. But I guess in Morning Joe's' mind, Republicans can play as low as they want Democrats have to rise above it. I actually thought that Obama did a great service to our nation in how he answered.
"And so if there are concrete, actual suggestions to enhance this extraordinary screening process that’s already in place, we’re welcome -- we’re open to hearing actual ideas," Obama said. "But that’s not really what’s been going on in this debate. When candidates say, we wouldn't admit three-year-old orphans -- that’s political posturing. When individuals say that we should have a religious test and that only Christians -- proven Christians -- should be admitted -- that’s offensive and contrary to American values."
"I cannot think of a more potent recruitment tool for ISIL than some of the rhetoric that’s been coming out of here during the course of this debate. ISIL seeks to exploit the idea that there is a war between Islam and the West," he continued. "And when you start seeing individuals in positions of responsibility, suggesting that Christians are more worthy of protection than Muslims are in a war-torn land, that feeds the ISIL narrative. It’s counterproductive, and it needs to stop."

I hope the President is not backing off here. The fact that he's now delaying closing Gitmo makes you wonder.
But I think it was a very powerful statement. It told the entire world community that this is not who we Americans are. If POTUS simply ignores the GOP posturing then the message is that they speak for all of us.
Then ISIS has the recruitment tool they want as clearly Americans hate Islam. But by Obama doing this, he corrects the record. So I think he was spot on there.
As former Secretary of State Madeline Albright says, ISIS wants to convince Muslims that there is a mortal war between Muslims and their attackers.
"Our enemies have a plan. They want to divide the world between Muslims and non-Muslims, and between the defenders and attackers of Islam. By making Syrian refugees the enemy, we are playing into their hands. Instead, we need to clarify that the real choice is between those who think it is OK to murder innocent people and those who think it is wrong. By showing that we value every human life, we can make clear to the world where we stand."

You have sorry pundits like Chuck Todd who seem determined to fan the falmes of jingoism and prejudice at every turn.
He was pushing the idea tonight that suggested that if our screening process for the refugees is good it must reject as many as possible.

Now more than ever we should be accepting refugees.
