In the 2016 Primary, it Seems Only Hillary Has to Answer Tough Questions

There's been a lot of the media patting John Dickerson on the back about how his performance is some vindication of the media.

Here a Washington Post piece asks whether Dickerson's 'tough treatment' will quite the GOP complaints of bias.

"After weeks of Republican charges of media bias — that journalists are too hard on GOP candidates and too gentle with Democrats — it will be interesting to see whether Dickerson’s handling of Saturday’s proceedings (and of Clinton, in particular) quell the complaints at all."

Here's my problem with it. Basically what we seem to be seeing is that the media is being softer on the GOP-the last Fox News Business debate was all soft ball questions and stump speeches. Meanwhile, Dickerson was tough on the Democrats, especially Hillary to assuage the GOP.

So the Republicans have won-they've successfully manipulated and bullied the media. If you ask them tough questions it's bias. If you don't go after HRC with second and third round tough follow up questions, it's biased.

Beyond that, Dickerson was only really tough on HRC. David Axelrod himself noted that on Twitter last night.

"@HillaryClinton getting frontrunner treatment from @johndickerson and opponents. Playing a lot of defense."

To me Dickerson was really biased on gun control. He never interceded when Bernie kept hitting HRC about being too close to Wall Street, breaking up the banks, and yet again belaboring her Iraq vote,

Yet, when the subject turned to gun control, Dickerson didn't push Bernie at all but basically defused the issue for him. He asked HRC why one bad vote in the past should 'tattoo' Bernie if her Iraq vote doesn't do that for her.

Then he said that Bernie is the same as her on gun control today so why does history matter?

Yet, Bernie's whole campaign has been about belaboring history-that he was 'Right first' on Keystone, on gay rights, on Iraq, etc.

Why did Dickerson immediately take Bernie off the hot seat on guns? Beyond that, it's not true. Even now Bernie is not as strong as HRC is on guns-not by a long shot.

He agrees with background checks, other than that it's 'Time to stop shouting.'

And it's not just one bad vote-his whole career has been seen a pattern of such bad votes. He voted numerous times against the Brady bill, In 2007 he voted to make it harder for the FBI to keep information on unscrupulous gun manufacturers.

As Rachel Maddow pointed out at the Dem Forum last week, he also voted to allow guns to be transferred on Amtrak.
It's not about one vote-the whole composite shows him as weak tea on gun control.

So I have to disagree-I wasn't impressed by Dickerson. When everyone gets the same level of questions in both parties then I'll be ready to give a John Dickerson his 'juice box.'
