Final Thoughts on CBS Dem Debate

I have to say as a Democrat, this debate couldn't be more anti climatic compared with the GOP debates. Indeed, the DNC has been knocked for scheduling debates when the fewest are likely to be watching them.

I wonder how many watched tonight. I watched it-of course, but then I'm nothing if not a political junkie on steroids.

I would broadly agree with Josh Marshall-HRC won, to the extent that was no smoking gun that really hurt her.

I also think Marshall may be right that the CBS moderator, John Dickerson was a little tougher on HRC than the other candidates. He tended to push back again and again on her answers.

Even on gun control, he more or less claimed that Bernie had just one bad vote on gun control and that he is with her now. Which is false. There is still a lot of real problems with his current position on gun control starting with his stock answer for every time there's another tragic shooting-'It's time to stop the shouting.'

Maybe that sounds reasonable-unless your loved one is a victim-then you may not appreciate it.

But I think Hillary weathered it fine. The crowd seemed with her.

The truth is that this is a much less climatic debate as the Dems are basically unified. The party is behind her.

But I see him as more of a protest candidate-which is not to say that he wouldn't like to win. A protest candidate raises the profile of certain issues though they ultimately don't win the nomination or even come close.

Bernie tends to be very one dimensional-he just repeats his stump speech.

I think Bernie will probably be a voice of considerable stature in 2017 who will be able to work with HRC in terms of getting stuff done.
