CNN's Perverse Definition of 'Disrespectful'

I often speak of the Very Serious Pundits-Krugman coined the idea of the Very Serious People-and it's basically phony 'centrist' Beltway pundits that try to make everything 50-50 between the parties.

This would make sense if the parties really were roughly equal in terms of logical coherence and decency. But as Norm Ornstein tell us, It's worse than you think .

http://www.amazon.com/Even-Worse-Than-Looks-Constitutional/dp/0465074731/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1448033668&sr=8-1&keywords=norm+ornstein

Basically no matter how clearly the too sides are not equal, the VSP try to kid us that they are. The result, is false equivalence after false equivalence being drawn.

Here is a classic moment of VSP itis at CNN-a very significant VSP citadel. Whereas in some sense Fox represents conservative Republicans, and MSNBC, liberal Democrats, CNN supposedly is Dead Center with no views whatsoever.

So here is the latest gem for CNN"s impressive nonparstianship.

CNN reportedly suspended global affairs correspondent Elise Labott after she reacted Thursday on Twitter to a House vote on legislation that would make it harder for Syrian refugees to enter the U.S.

"Despite a veto threat from the White House, many House Democrats joined Republicans in passing a bill that would effectively suspend the admission of Syrian and Iraqi refugees to the U.S. Labott tweeted about the vote, adding: "Statue of Liberty bows head in anguish."

After her spanking, she apologized in a new tweet:

'Everyone, It was wrong of me to editorialize. My tweet was inappropriate and disrespectful. I sincerely apologize.'

Gee, I wonder how the Statue of Liberty is doing now.

You've done it again, CNN. Kept the world safe for Very Serious Pundits everywhere.

I'm sure if CNN were around in the age of Hitler they would have fired the journalist who criticized concentration camps.

P.S. Apparently, the rule of not editorializing doesn't apply to Wolf Blitzer or Anderson Cooper.

P.S.S. I should add that Erik Wemple was the one who demanded that CNN take this action. He must win Very Serious Pundit for the year.

  1. Mike, elsewhere in a comment I pointed out how the NRA defends gun rights for all... even people on the FBI's terror watch list. This gave me an idea... one I lack the courage to implement (or looked at another way, have too much sense to implement): a bit of political theater: How hilarious would it be to walk into a gun store dressed like as ISIS member, complete with black flag and all, and ask them about the best guns and ammo for mass slaughter... and then ask to see some of the weapons they have for sale. Would they be keen to make the sale? Lol. I could see Sacha Baron Cohen attempting a stunt like that... or maybe even he has more sense than that. Either case, if he survived, the footage would be priceless!

  2. Yes that would be a great bit. I'm guessing you'd get your guns.

  3. The one civil liberty terrorism doesn't erode is a right of anyone-terrorist, gang leader, Charles Manson, whoever-to get as many guns as possible.

The NRA goal is not just maximize number of sales but number of gun shots

    1. That's right: it's not just arms manufacturers they represent, but ammo manufacturers too!

Which reminds me of one of my all time favorite Onion videos ever. Enjoy!

  4. Re: your post here, did you see this?:

So why wasn't Eric calling for her suspension when she tweeted this?:

"@jeffzeleny @POTUS and just spent last 5 minutes wining about criticism instead of presenting ideas on how deal w/ #Isis global expansion"

    1. I didn't see that. Thanks for the link. A great question for him to answer

    2. I just left Wemple another Tweet asking him why calling POTUS a whiner isn't political bias or disrespectful. Speaks volumes about the real bias of CNN and Wemple

    3. Sure he won't answer but needs to be said

  5. O/T: Mike, Chris Hayes played this speech from Sept. 17, 2001 by W tonight. It's amazing how things have changed (for the worse) in the GOP even since then:

Now I think W might be to the left of me a bit in that speech (I'm not sure I agree with all that)... but still, overall, I think it was a good speech, and I think he did the right thing in making it.

Absolutely inconceivable that a GOP candidate would say something like that now.
