Francois Hollande Vows to Increase Syrian Refugees in the Next Two Years

All those in the US demonizing these victims of ISIS should take note.

In the last few days, GOPers are suddenly in love with the French again for their tough stand on terrorism. Morning Joe was belaboring the point that Hollande said the words We're at war. He and Obama aren't on the same page. .

You know with Republicans, it's always about word games and saying the magic words.

Obama didn't say Islamic terrorism. He said setback. Kerry said rationale. You didn't build that.

So if they admire France so much now-no more Freedom Fry taunts?-then ought to take notice of what Hollande is doing regarding refugees taking more.

The French president risks an electoral whooping by announcing his country will take even more Syrian refugees. Our leaders should take a note.

"This is how a mature country acts. In announcing that France would increase the number of Syrian refugees it will take in over the next two years in the aftermath of the Paris attacks, French President Francois Hollande expressed a sentiment we need much more of in this country: “France should remain as it is. Our duty is to carry on our lives.”

"In September, France had committed to accepting 24,000 Syrians. Wednesday, Hollande upped the number to 30,000. That’s three times the number Barack Obama wants to bring into the United States, for a country with about one-fifth our population. Hollande’s government will also spend $53 million on housing for the refugees."

And unlike us, France was just hit. The other thing Hollande said is also right on the money. France should remain as it is. Our duty is to carry on our lives.
That is also how a mature country responds to senseless terror. Folks like Morning Joe are upset that Obama hasn't vowed to change every aspect of his policies in response to one attack.
But this is seldom the best response. You never want to turn 180 degrees overnight. You have to carry on with life. If Hollande and the French can do this, how much less excuse do we have for giving into baseless alarmism and fear?
Hollande really is out on a limb here. There is a lot of Islamophobia in France-remember the Burqua laws.

"And we should stipulate that France has hardly been paradise for Syrians and Arabs or Muslims generally, as is well known. Also well known of course is the ferocious anti-immigrant sentiment that pervades the country, expressed politically by Marine Le Pen’s Front National. So France is no shining city on the hill."

"Obama has been courageous too. But he is also out on a limb here. If there is someday a domestic terror attack by someone who got in under this program, he’ll bear the blame. And if such an attack were to happen, oh, next fall, Hillary Clinton, who is with Obama on this, would probably pay the biggest price. They both know this, and they’ve decided that it’s a risk worth taking to keep faith with our country’s nobler history, as has Hollande in France."

I'm just grateful we have President Obama-more than ever. I mean, I get why he gets under his enemies' skin so much. He's so cool, so no drama Obama.
This quality of his has also gotten under the skin of some more militant African American activists in the past as well who seemed to think that the President should come in fire and brimstone like Malcolm X fulminating against Blue Eyed Devils. Both the Hard Left and Hard Right find him very frustrating
What I love about Obama is he has just the right temperament and instincts. He's right now and hopefully he doesn't let himself get intimidated-which could be read into the delay in shutting down Gitmo.
