First Reactions From Tonight's GOP Debate

I find this in many ways a tougher debate to grade than previous ones. I'm not sure who the winner was..I guess there were a few winners.

Let's start with who I think didn't do well. Kasich. As Mr. Right Wing Talk Show Host himself, Howie Carr says, Kaisch talked a great deal and said so little.

I don't think that Carly Fiorina did much to help herself. As she's not doing well, that would make her  a loser. I thought Jeb was better but did he do enough? I don't know about Dr. Ben.

Chris Matthews, Michael Steele, and Steve Schmidt seem to think he hurt himself with some gibberish answers on foreign policy. I don't know. I mean to me most of what these GOPers say is gibberish.

On foreign policy they just want more military intervention and more wars. Dr. Ben didn't sound like that. Ok, I'm not certain what he was saying but I'm also not certain he hurt himself with his base:

Even if it is gibberish, what has Dr. Ben ever said that isn't gibberish? But we shall see.

The Drudge Report seems to back this up. Now you have to take it with a grain of salt perhaps-you know these online polls. But according to it, Trump aced with almost 37%, Cruz was second with just under 22%, Cruz was third with almost 17%-I'm rounding up in this one. Rubio was fourth with almost 13%.

From there, it's a big drop to Dr. Ben with under 5%. Carly Fiorina is just behind Ben also at less than 5%-just a little less than Ben.

Bringing up the rear was Kasich and Jeb under 2%, with Jeb dead last.

I'm sort of taking this poll more seriously than some of the others I saw in previous debates. Maybe because it seems pretty plausible. I didn't take the poll after the Dem debate seriously at all that showed that Jim Webb as well as Bernie blew Hillary away.

But these numbers seem plausible.

Politico also thinks Trump, Rubio, and Cruz did well. It thinks Jeb did alright. But is alright enough?

In my preview of the debate, I saw the big question of whether Trump goes after Carson and Jeb goes after Rubio.

The answer turned out to be a big no. But the reason the question was important was because Jeb and Rubio are vying for the Establishment candidate and Ben and Trump are going for outsider status-with Cruz a kind of hermaphrodite wildcard.

But if Drudge's polls are in any way accurate, then it was a great night for both Trump and Rubio-as well as Cruz.

There are two different Macro debates within this debate.

1. Do voters want an establishment insider or an outsider?

2. At this point there are those who want both-though the polls seem to show the outsider vote is larger. But in any case there are two different primaries going on-the primary for the establishment and the primary for the outsider.

Tonight when fights broke out-and this was even true of the Kid's Table debate where thinks got testy between Christie and Jindal

http://lastmenandovermen.blogspot.com/2015/11/jindal-gives-christie-juice-box-for.html

it was between the establishment on teh one hand and the outsiders on the other.

Early tonight Kasich again tried as he did at the start of the last debate to nail Trump on immigration. He thinks Trump's unrealistic about deporting 11 million people. But he does say he wants a wall. So the difference between the two positions is much smaller than he's trying to make it sound.

Jeb also echoed Kaisch after. Later Ted Cruz hit back, defending Trump. Later there was an argument between Trump and Rand Paul on the one hand, and Fiorina and Rubio on the other. Jeb also got involved.

The establishment candidates don't like Trump's suggestion that we should let Russia take out ISIS-though it makes sense to me.

Finally there was a debate between Jeb and Kasich who vowed to always bailout Bank of America and Ted Cruz and Ben Carson who would let it fail.

Fox Business moderator, Neil Cavuto, seemed very flummoxed by that.
