Not surprising when you consider the mess McCarthy has made for him. It's amazing what a couple ill considered words can do. Gowdy wold rather have Paul Ryan Overall, quite an endorsement:
"With the election for House Speaker scheduled for tomorrow, and the helpless and enfeebled Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) being helped or dragged along by establishment supporters, McCarthy today is reduced to demanding Democrats "stop playing politics" with Benghazi."
"With the election for House Speaker scheduled for tomorrow, and the helpless and enfeebled Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) being helped or dragged along by establishment supporters, McCarthy today is reduced to demanding Democrats "stop playing politics" with Benghazi."
"Meanwhile, Rep Trey Gowdy (R-SC), Chairman of the Benghazi committee is saying McCarthy's apology "doesn't fix it." He goes on to say that all things being equal he'd rather have Paul Ryan (R-WI) as Speaker "because he’s super, super smart." But it's too late for that now and Ryan's not running. So strong endorsement for McCarthy!"
"The only thing amazing about this is how it took a momentary remark by McCarthy to suddenly make what everyone knows into an acceptable point of public discussion: namely, that the Benghazi Committee was not only a transparently political exercise(that's hardly unprecedented) but just a complete crock by every definition. Without McCarthy's clumsy remark, DC's establishment press apparently didn't realize this was the case or didn't think it was an acceptable point of discussion. That's amazing."

A great new ad by the 'other Kevin McCarthy' for Hillary Clinton.

P.S. It seems some took offense to my other piece about Biden's prolife record.

I'm not sure what the complaint is. A few felt this is beneath the belt because Biden says that while he's personally prolife he won't impose his views in office.
In their mind that is the beginning and end of the discussion. I have to disagree. With a woman's right to choose under assault and hanging by a threat in so many red states, I disagree that all we are allowed to ask from him is this one rather ambiguous promise.
He does have a record that is not so hot.
The fact that he voted to overturn Roe v Wade in 1982 is rather arresting. Ok, it's a long time ago but in accessing someone's record its legitimate to provide context.
For example Hillary is criticized for supporting Keystone only lately. The critics don't think we can only take her most recent word for it and that's it.
And on abortion in particular I think it's not enough to trust we have to verify.
Biden's record has continued to not be so hot over the years. In 1994 he voted against Hillary's healthcare law on abortion grounds. He continues to speak against 'partial birth abortion' which is a red herring and is used by the GOP as a Trojan Horse to whittle down a woman's right tho choose.
We know the Holy War the GOP is currently waging against Planned Parenthood.
To have any hope of beating this back we will need more than someone who is also against abortion but promises to abstain from the discussion in public life.
We will need an advocate who pushes back.
P.S.S. In other news, David Axelrod is put off by the new Draft Biden ad as exploitative of his son's death.
