He basically only enforces the laws that he likes. I was just watching Brooke Baldwin of CNN interview a young gentleman who advocates sensible gun control.
Ms. Baldwin pointed out that Oregon is one of the states with background checks. Well, they just finally got that passed but this sort of misses the point.
They do have background checks but the county where this mass shooting happened yesterday has a sheriff, John Hamlin who has boasted that he disregards gun laws he doesn't agree with. I think in light of this it's not hyperbole to say that Sheriff Hamlin has blood on his hands.

There's an old saying: Think globally, act locally that I think really works here. It's very frustrating to advocate for sensible gun control as right now the Congress is run by a close minded bunch of GOP reactionaries who will oppose any restrictions no matter how basic or sensible.
The answer is that gun control advocates have to look locally as well as nationally. Now I hear people saying that we should call our Congressman.
I can call my Congressman and maybe I will but I live in NY where we have a pretty strong gun control Governor in Mayor Cuomo.
What about places like Roseburg, Oregon where this happened yesterday? Isn't it clear that after listening to the Sheriff as well as the Mayor that there is blanket political opposition to any kind of gun control? I mean you even have the Sheriff boasting that he doesn't follow the laws on the books.
So I think this Sheriff should be focused on particularly. He needs to be interrogated by gun control advocates. Andy Parker should focus there.
