Last Men and OverMen Shameless Fundraising Edition

I mentioned last week that as the Adsense model hasn't worked for me, I'm going for the affiliate marketing model of making a little money off my website.

http://lastmenandovermen.blogspot.com/2015/08/is-it-time-to-for-all-ripped-off.html

However, since I wrote the first post, my strategy has changed somewhat. For now I'm just sticking to being an affiliate for Amazon. If you scroll on the right of the blog you will see I have a few books with a link to Amazon. Most of them are pretty cheep under $10 or even $5.

Why have I chosen Amazon and focused on books? Well in many ways this blog is based sort of what I would like to read in a great blog. I imagine what would keep me coming back for more.

As to products this is what I would buy if I were going to buy books at a website. And I have done this a number of times.

I have to presume my readers are at least somewhat like me-or why would they read me? And books seem the most likely as if you really hate to read surely the only reason you're here is you've gotten lost.

Now I know everybody brings their own sensibilities to things. Some might be put off by the very idea that I'm trying to make money off the blog. I remember when a brouhaha got started at Firedoglake when a woman there made an issue out of the fact that Jane Hamsher had ads from 'corporate America.'

Such ciriticsm reminds me of the old saying of 'Folks that are too Heavenly to be of any earthly use'-I mean I was never exactly la fan of FDL but I certainly didnt' begrudge Jane Hamsher making a buck from her efforts which would facilitate the kind of activism they were trying to achieve.

I disagreed with her political tactics but part of why she went under is she was unable to get adequate funding.

As for me my motivations in writing this blog are twofold:

1. Most important I want to right stuff that gives people who are political junkies or econonerds a lot of analysis and thought provoking stuff to chew on. Again, if I stumbled upon Last Men and OverMen I would love this blog.

Judging by my analytics  of my readers at least some of you agree.

If you do agree and you like to read then why not buy it from a link on my site? I've had readers ask how they can donate to me-this is the best way.

Ok so let me give you the five big books I'm now promoting.

1. Garry Wills' Confession of a Conservative

http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Conservative-Garry-Wills/dp/0385089775/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1441214018&sr=1-1&keywords=confessions+of+a+conservative

This is where I got my mature political philosophy from. By his definition I actually would agree I'm a conservative.

2. Keynes' General Theory. Need I say more?

http://www.amazon.com/General-Theory-Employment-Interest-Money/dp/0156347113/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1441214131&sr=1-1&keywords=general+theory

3, Plato's Republic.

http://www.amazon.com/Republic-Hackett-Classics-Plato/dp/0872207366/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1441214158&sr=1-3&keywords=plato%27s+republic

If you want to understand the true nature of society, I'd start here, rather than in a modern sociology textbook. Given the choice it's not even close. I have nothing against modern sociology by the way but to put it even in the same sentence as The Republic is not fair to  modern sociology.

Next, probably the two authors that have had the biggest impact on me:

4. Nietzsche-all of his work but start with Zarathustra.

http://www.amazon.com/Thus-spake-Zarathustra-book-none-ebook/dp/B011AW28PG/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1441214418&sr=1-3&keywords=nietzsche

Here is a larger collection of his works

http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Nietzsche-Library-ebook/dp/B001R9DI3Y/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1441214418&sr=1-4&keywords=nietzsche

5. Finally the radical anti-Nietzschean Geoff Waite whose work on Nietzsche like the man himself is an adventure in mind-fuckery.

http://www.amazon.com/Nietzsches-Corps-Technoculture-Post-Contemporary-Interventions/dp/0822317192/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1441214798&sr=1-1&keywords=nietzsche+geoff+waite

So that's sort of an intellectual genealogy for me for those who wonder where I'm coming from. Again,

1. If you would like to donate

and/or

2. Like buying books from Amazon

obviously only if you:

3. Have a few bucks

really, if 1 or 2 apply with 3 why not buy a couple here at Last Men and OverMen? It's a win-win for us.

What will I do with the money? Well it won't save the world overnight but it will contribute to the effort as all that stops me from saving the world is I haven't gotten rich and famous enough for it!

So it's also philanthropic. And at the end of the day even if you don't think you can read that many books at once what's the matter with building up a collection and helping a guy you enjoy reading?

Ok so that's the end of the fundraising drive-for today anyway!

And yes, if you never click or buy anything you're still 100% welcome here and you are still highly appreciated; though you'd be welcome 110% if you did and even more highly appreciated.

I'm just saying.

P.S. Sometime soon I'll write a separate blog post about each of the five books I listed above and more in depth about why I think these are such important works.
