Scott Sumner Endorses Hillary Clinton

I pretty much nailed my prediction of what he would say:

Regarding how you might vote, I was at first thinking you’d probably go Gary Johnson or some other libertarian write-in.

But on second thought, I think you’d probably go Hillary even though you dislike her, as your first concern is to make sure Trump doesn’t win-and the best way to do that is to vote for Hillary.

Will be waiting for your endorsement with bated breath."

Of course, he didn't respond to this-the man simply never drops down his guard. But I was pretty much on the money. It was worth the bated breath:

"Hillary is Terrible. I Despise Her. I Endorse Her.'

That was just the title:

"At least I endorse her for voters living in purple states. For those living in red and blue states, I recommend voting for Gary Johnson. Since I live in Massachusetts, I plan to vote for Johnson. He’s far and away the best choice, which was not as true 4 years ago. Clinton is worse than Obama (more authoritarian/militaristic), and of course Trump is infinitely worse than Romney."

So I pretty much nailed it-I even mentioned Gary Johnson. Sumner won't admit it, but I'm sure he hated me being so on the nose. I didn't totally nail it-I didn't consider the purple state qualification.

Noam Chomsky who considers himself a 'socialist libertarian'-a position that would give Sumner cognitive dissonance-says the same thing, If he lived in a purple state he'd vote Hillary.

You have to respect Chomsky and Sumner more than the Berners at least who make the absurd claim that Hillary is no better than Trump. Look, if you can say that Hillary is not your first choice-or even like Sumner that you 'despise her' but at least admit she's not Trump, that at least is not a totally absurd position.

But there are Berners who are trying to argue that there is no difference between Trump and Hillary-Salon has had a number of such arguments by different writers.

Then there is those on both the Left and the Right who say that they are both #NeverTrump and #NeverHillary.

As Red State''s Ben Howe says, this is a logical contradiction. Who the next President will be is now a binary choice between Hillary and Trump.

A Bernie supporter actually told me yesterday that this is not true that maybe Hillary gets indicted or Mitt Romney runs. So they'd rather have Romney than Hillary?

E. Harding told me that Trump is going to blowout Hillary. Sure, Rush Limbaugh says the same thing. My answer to both of them is: in a parallel universe that may well be true.

Here is what I said to E. Harding:

"E. Harding let me make one point clear. I have been saying since last July that Trump could win the GOP nomination."

"His victory is a shock for most Beltway pundits but not for me. I consider his nomination my own sweet vindication."

"You will see I’m on record here."

http://lastmenandovermen.blogspot.com/2016/05/this-is-why-im-trump-democrat-reason-759.html

"Now why did I anticipate his victory and the pundits didn’t? Simply put as Nate Silver himself admits: they overestimated the Republican party."

"So I saw Trump coming."

"But the difference between the GOP primary and the general election is simply huge."

"The very things he says that makes GOP voters love him more, make general election voters hate and despise him more. There is just this amazing inverse relationship here: the primary GOP voters more and more love what he says and the general election voters just hate him more and more."

"This is why I rooted for him from day one."

"Hillary should start with what conservatives and Republicans like Ben Howe and Max Boot are saying."

"That Trump is the most unqualified Presidential nominee ever put up by either party in history."

"Again this is what conservatives and Republicans are saying about the Republican party’s own nominee."

"She should just play that again and again."

  1. Good call Mike! You did nail it, that's for sure.

If I didn't know a thing about Trump, I'd take this piece as an actual endorsement of the man (seeing as it's Erickson who's writing it):

The only thing there that sounds bad to me is "Islamic Radical."

But of course I DO know about Trump.

Like I told Sumner, my pop-corn budget is going to be 100x normal this year. So much fun!

  2. Thanks Tom. I wouldn't bother talk about how right I've been-if other people would! LOL

I was right on Trump, of course.

Also on Sumner's endorsement-not 100% but close. LOL.

To me, Hillary should just run on what conservatives and Republicans are saying about Trump-Sumner included.
