So I'm listening to Rush. He's still trying to be a little demur about the debate over Trump. He acknowledged the NBC poll that has Trump continuing to lead post Megyn Kelly.

He acknowledged that Bush had a terrible night. There are already a couple of warning signs that maybe Rush is somewhat suspicious.
He did start the show by warning Trump to go back to what put him a top the polls-his strong stand on the issues(!)
Furthermore, Limbaugh seems to be showing a little perceptiveness by pointing out that he had read about Trump's comments about 'blood coming out her eyes' in all the various papers-NY Times, Washington Post-etc. and he didn't notice any criticism by the 'liberal media.'
Rush says it was just straight objective reporting with no condemnation or snark. He said he found that interesting and that no way would there be that kind of response from the LM for any other Republican making similar comments. He did say that he's not sure how to interpret this (!)
As I said in my last post, I've just never seen trolling like this before.
"I just don't think I've ever seen trolling like this in an American Presidential campaign. I notice that everyone is catching on-Warren Buffet, Krugman, now Greg Sargent. Let's not even mention Bill Clinton."

I mean for trolling like this maybe you have to go back to Lincoln and the rise of the GOP Know Nothing movement-'I know nothing.' Then the GOP was actually on the side of angels. That was a very long time ago.

So who are the Know-Nothings in this picture and who just know nothing?
Maybe Sumner can tell us as he always knows exactly what every one means?

Don't get me wrong. Rush kind of touched on it here but he hasn't put it together at least not yet. What's great about conservative Republicans is their utter lack of context. Rush trying to tease out what's really going on here is like watching Elmer Fudd trying to figure out what happened to Bugs Bunny.
What shows you this is after discussing the issue over Megyn Kelly and Trump's talk that she had 'blood in her eyes' Rush digressed into a joke about women-other than Ms. Kelly menstruating and how they probably want Obamacare to pay for it.
This is quite appropriate. Anyone listening to this can see that to single out Trump is absurd. He's surely not the only one to make slurs about women on their periods.
P.S. I can't help but notice that Rush uses so many of the same exact its he used in the 90s. He just had a big that talked about Ken Starr and Susan McDougal. So I wouldn't worry too much that Rush is going to crack any case.
He is basically trying to play in the middle between the anti Trump fervor form the GOP establishment and the fanatical Trump partisans-many who listen to his show. He's being pulled in both directions and is being careful not to go too much in either direction.
P.S.S. Rush has another bit now about Al Gore who's only been out of office 16 years. Again, if you don't think the conservative Republican movement is in trouble just listen to Rush. I haven't really listened to him since the 90s.
It's shocking to me how many bits I remember. I mean what has Rush been doing for 16 years? Why does he still discuss Al Gore?
He does have another bit just up about John McCain-The McCain Mutiny. It was kind of funny but again it's old. It does show that it's not shocking that the base didn't care that much when Trump insulted McCain.
UPDATE: Another good sign. Limbaugh is indirectly defending Trump by attacking Bette Midler-one of the women Trump has insulted.

Mike, what did Rush say about Erickson? Anything?
ReplyDeleteLike I said Rush is kind of playing the middle. He is neither wholly on the Trump side or the anti-Trump side.
DeleteHe did say that he got emails to 'take out Erickson' and that he wouldn't do it as Republicans should all stick together.
Of course, what the Trump supporters were saying is that Trump had been unfairly un-invited. But Rush wouldn't rise to the bait.
Like I said you have to be a Rush Whisperer to really get what he's doing. Like when he talked about Trump saying Kelly had blood in her eyes he was careful not to take either side.
DeleteBut then he told a joke about some other women somewhere who all want money from Oabmacare for their periods.
So he kind of defends Trump here by attacking other women on their periods.
Again, Rush is kind of shrewd. He never endorses a candidate during primary season for good reasons. While he ostensibly is leading the people listening at home to see things his way he's still careful not not to come up with a viewpoint to far from what they already agree with.
DeleteHe takes the pulse of the audience before he goes of on a jaunt.
You've probably already seen this, but this partially satisfies my blood lust:
ReplyDelete"Also, not only is Erick a total loser, he has a history of supporting establishment losers in failed campaigns so it is an honor to be uninvited from his event. Mr. Trump is an outsider and does not fit his agenda."
