Hillary Clinton's Team Officially Vetting Elizabeth Warren for Vice President

This is big news. I have been skeptical of the idea that Warren could be the choice all along. But if this report is true, then I have to at least be less skeptical now.

I was very impressed with Warren's endorsement last week. It was not just going through the motions. My big reservation about her has been her loyalty to Hillary Clinton. Hillary wants and deserves someone who has her back always.

But as Warren is so passionate on her core issues you wonder if she could handle representing an Administration she disagreed with on a particular bank regulation, etc.

When your the VP, you give the President your best advice behind closed doors but once the President makes up her mind you have to sell it to the public whatever your initial misgivings. Is Warren capable of that?

Besides this, the media will constantly be looking for sings of discord or division between the two very well known, powerful women.

The media may go out of its way to speak well of Warren-in order to disparage Hillary by comparison.

The shoe was on the other foot when Hillary was Obama's SOS. Then the media spoke well of her to disparage Obama.

Of course, nevertheless, in Obama and Hillary's case the alliance worked brilliantly.

Obama's team of rivals has proven to be inspired. So maybe it could work with Warren too.

In recent polls you see Hillary pulling away even while significant numbers of Bernie supporters aren't supporting her yet. It seems quite plausible that she will do very well with independents and even some moderate Republicans.

So maybe Warren can bring some of them over. The only question is whether she drives away some Right leaning independents and moderate GOPers.

Be interested to run the numbers on this either way. But it would protect her left flank.

It would be a bold choice and shut up much of the grousing that she's not liberal enough.

"Hillary Clinton’s campaign is actively vetting Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) as a potential running mate, according to a Thursday Wall Street Journal report."

"The popular, progressive Massachusetts senator, known for her strong stance on Wall Street regulation and skill at landing punches against Donald Trump, has long been floated as a smart choice vice presidential pick for the more centrist Democrat."

"Warren endorsed Clinton last week after she secured the number of votes needed to clinch the Democratic nomination, and both have expressed eagerness at working together if the former secretary of state becomes president. The two met last Friday at Clinton’s home in Washington, DC, fueling rumors of a two-woman ticket."

"The vetting has for now been limited to scrutinizing publicly available information, according to the Journal, and candidates have not yet been asked to submit tax returns or other personal information."

"Other possible choices include Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro, Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, among others."

"Notably absent from the reported short list is Clinton’s opponent in the Democratic primary, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)."

"Though Clinton told Telemundo on Tuesday that she hadn’t “even begun to sort all that out” when asked if she’d consider Sanders, the Journal said she had no plan to do so."

Bernie is not Oval Office material. Yesterday he ditched the Dem's impressive 15 hour filibuster as he was more interested in focusing on himself.

I like all candidates mentioned though I still wonder if they've considered Al Franken who checks all the boxes-other than being a white male.

I guess one other potential drawback: he's 65. Then again, Warren is 67 so that's not really a problem if you like the candidate.

Truth be told in 2024 the Dems will be ready for the Cory Bookers, Julian Castros, and Kirsten Gillibrands of the world. So an older VP is not a problem.
