You Have More Money Than Donald Trump

When Timothy O'Brien used that title, he got sued by Mr. Trump.

But it remains apt:

"Supporters of Donald Trump got an unexpected plea on Saturday: a request to send the billionaire money."

"It was an "emergency" request, the Hill reported, representing an urgent need for an infusion of $100,000 to put ads on the air in battleground states. Why Trump couldn't simply write a check to cover the costs apparently wasn't explained, but the missive was useful regardless: It demonstrates clearly the difficult position of the Trump campaign with only 142 days to go."

HT: Tom Brown.

Tom also makes this incisive observation:

"Trump doesn't just write a check for $100,000 because he lives on credit. It's why he holds on to whatever money does come his way and refuses to pay until the very last minute, until he's under media pressure, or because a court orders him to. He's living on a margin and the slightest miscalculation sends him back into bankruptcy court."

"I doubt he has even $1M in ready money."

"It makes sense. How else do you explain why a billionaire can't come up with $100 grand?"

"The issue here is, Trump managed to sell himself to the 39% of the people who voted for him in the primaries as a true "outsider" who wasn't controlled by anybody. Trust me, I've had more than enough Trump supporters yell at me their guy is not "bought and paid for."
"So much for that. "

It's been clear that Trump does not have a lot of ready cash lying around:

"Donald Trump, after long saying his self-financed campaign shielded him from special interests, is preparing to start raising large donations. He reversed course, he said in early May, to ensure his campaign has the resources to compete with Hillary Clinton."

"It might seem a strange reason for a man who says he is worth $10 billion. But a close analysis of Mr. Trump’s finances shows that in terms of ready cash, he would be ill-equipped to foot the bill himself."

"When his campaign began last summer, a financial disclosure Mr. Trump filed said he had between about $78 million and $232 million in cash and relatively liquid assets such as stocks and bonds."

But in light of yesterday's request, even that is hard to believe. If he had $78 million, he could come up with $100,000 on his own. It's be easier than someone with $780 dollars coming up with one dollar.

The cornerstone of his campaign has been that he's self-funding and so can't be bought-this has turned out to be false as he can't self fund.

It's also been that he's this incredibly successful businessman. Turns out that's just one more scam.

  1. Hi Mike. Thanks for the H/T. But to set the record straight, that observation you credit to me isn't mine: that was a comment from the comments section of the WaPo article you link to.

Also, you might find this interesting: a real-time poll apparently: the "Reuters Daily Poll":
    http://www.redstate.com/absentee/2016/06/19/sunday-morning-poll-results-terror-guns-presidency/

I followed the link to Reuters:

And now I'll try embedding it (see the blue "Embed" button in the upper left?):

    Seems to work.

    1. I notice that it doesn't show up on the list of graded polls on 538:

  4. Trump is both to the right and left of the NRA (I haven't seen Erickson or RedState make fun of him for being to the right of the NRA yet). To the left for "no fly no buy" and to the right for his "arm club goers" statements:

  5. Mike, did you see GOP consultant Rick Wilson's profanity laden tweetstorm directed against his fellow Republicans for supporting the "Cheeto Jesus?" Here's #8 of 10:

8/ This weekend, people were lined up hundreds deep to give blood to the victims of Orlando. Your Cheeto Jesus was praising himself.
