Thank God for Minority Voters

You have to give it to Scott Sumner who noted this back in April.

He makes an excellent point.

Think of it this way.

1. Thanks to minority voters Bernie was defeated

2. Thanks to minority voters Trump will likely be defeated

3. If the UK had more minority voters Brexit would have been defeated.

The irony is, then, that while the Right wing always fears minorities as being un American and dangerous radicals, the minority vote has actually turned out to be a very small c conservative force for good in our politics.

Often we Dems laugh in comparing the mess the GOP has turned out be compared how unified and healthy the Dems are now.

While the Republicans seem like historical outliers-when have you seen a Republican Presidential nominee that other Republicans want nothing to do with?

But when you look at Britain, you realize that the outlier now is really the Democrats. They have this tremendous unity of purpose, this cohersion, everyone on teh same page.

But in Britain, while David Cameron shot himself in the foot, Labour has been unable to capitalize, they're too busy trying to take out Jeremy Corbyn as their party leader.

What is striking is how there is no leadership in Britain. No one can agree with anyone. Total dysfunction.

In a number of European countries-Spain, etc.-there is similar craziness.

What makes the US different? Why is the Democratic party so healthy and why are they likely to win? A big part of this is simply: our large number of nonwhite voters.
